Scunthorpe fan: I’m surprised how well we’ve done
This Scunthorpe fan is hopeful his side will reach the play-offs after their good season so far…
Thanks to REP for posing the questions
About the fan…
My username is MISTERONMICK and I have supported the Iron since 1962.
About the opposition…
How are your team doing?
I’m surprised how well we have done like everybody else. We had a great end of season last year but team-wise we are a bit inconsistent at times and not scoring has many as we were in the first three months. However, I will be disappointed if we don’t make the play-offs.
The players to watch?
Josh Morris and Murray Wallace are our most consistent players, but several more can be match winners one week and a liability the next.
Your thoughts on the manager?
Graham Alexander is an Iron legend from his playing days and well respected as a manager by our supporters. He makes mistakes occasionally but admits it when he gets it wrong.
A score prediction and predicted attendance?
I have a habit of forecasting defeats for us because if I forecast a win we would lose, so for our sake I will say a Vale win by two goals to one with Hopper scoring for us. A crowd of around 4,600.
A guide for Vale fans…
Any quirky facts?
Kevin Keegan, Ray Clemence, Ian Botham all captained England at football or cricket. Glen Kirkham was a England and GB captain at hockey, but a former Iron youth team player before changing sports.
Any recommendations for away-friendly pubs, parking and eateries?
The Farmhouse near ground lets in away fans and does meals and the Berkley is only a few minutes walk away.
Fellow forum user BARRIETHOMAS adds – The Berkeley pub welcomes well-behaved away fans. It does some food but a limited menu. It’s CHEAP ale. It is a ten minute walk away from the ground and a good place to park, even though it is probably heading in the wrong direction you will be away quicker away than parking in the official car park. The Farmhouse pub near the ground have started charging to park but I think you get that back if you spend money in there.
