One in and one out? Smith and Jones dominate Vale phone-in
Port Vale Norman Smurthwaite has told BBC Radio Stoke that there is Premier League interest in Nathan Smith but that the club would like to sign Alex Jones on a permanent basis.
Smith was recently named as the Football League young player of the month and has received rave reviews since breaking into the Vale first-team.
I love him to bits and he’d be a great addition to our permanent squad…
Smurthwaite commented: “There has been interest from a Premier League level and if the right offer was made … he will leave us in January. This lad is not motivated by money, he is motivated by the craft and it would have to be the right deal for him. If the right opportunity did come for him then Port Vale will hopefully get a great deal of recompense.”
Meanwhile, the Vale owner says the club want to sign on-loan striker Alex Jones saying: “I had a meeting with the CEO of Birmingham and we’re putting a proposal forward as we speak. The way to go forward would be to acquire his services in January.
“I’m in the way of trying to build a football club, not just run one. is a great lad, I think he’s embraced the club. I love him to bits and he’d be a great addition to our permanent squad.”
