Port Vale coach Andy Smith felt that Vale’s poor second-half performance against Bristol Rovers was to blame for their 2-1 defeat.
Smith told the media: “I am very disappointed if I am being honest. I thought we controlled the first half and maybe individual errors for the first goal let them in for the equaliser – not picking up the runner and not stopping the cross.
“I think we let them into the game and then got punished for it, if I am being brutally honest.
“We should have killed them off in the first half. We were creating and the tempo was high, but for whatever reason in the second half the tempo wasn’t there. That’s something we are going to have to look at.”
