Port Vale tried to get Bury’s Tom Pope on loan but move is now unlikely
Port Vale Chairman Norman Smurthwaite says he tried to get former Vale striker Tom Pope back on loan but any move this summer is unlikely.
Smurthwaite told BBC Radio Stoke that he spoke to the striker toward the end of last season when the striker had suffered a wrist injury. Smurthwaite commented: “I phoned him up and said ‘how bad is it Tom?’
I still think he could offer us something, especially being the kind of player he is…
“He said, ‘if you are asking me if I will come on loan to you, I will get it plastered.’ But unfortunately Bury turned down the request.
“I have had dialogue with him and his agent because I still think he could offer us something, especially being the kind of player he is.
“But since Leon was sold last week to Sheffield United, Tom feels, and I can’t disagree with him, that his options have been limited now.
“That’s leaving for any club, not just us.”
