Bruno Ribeiro gave Ben Purkiss his first stage of the summer but Kiko was missing which meant that Kjell Knops lined up as left-back. On the bench were trialists Nathan Tyson and Chris Birchall along with recent signing Sebastien Amoros.
Vale threatened in the early stages with chances for Tavares and Grant but it was goalless at the break.
Jak Alnwick made a fine save just after the break to keep the score goalless before Foley had a shot which was saved. The Valiants then made a host of changes including a first appearance for former Monaco midfielder Amoros.
But with representatives of Wolves new owners watching from the stands, the Valiants comfortably secured an honourable draw in front of a crowd of almost 2,000.
Vale: Alnwick (Boot), Purkiss, Knops, Grant (Forrester), Streete (Mac-Intosch), Smith, Thomas (Kelly), Tavares (Amoros), Cicilia (Hooper), Foley (Pereira), Mbamba (Tyson)
Subs: Birchall
Attendance: 1,981 (611 visitors)
