Jeff Johnson player profile:
Welsh midfielder Jeff Johnson began his career at Manchester City and arrived at Gillingham in 1982 following lengthy spells at Crystal Palace and Sheffield Wednesday. Johnson was also named player of the season at Wednesday in 1980. After three years with the Gills he joined John Rudge’s Port Vale FC in June 1985 on a free transfer.
However, his solitary season at Vale Park was sadly disrupted by injury. Johnson suffered a broken foot in October and was restricted to just sixteen appearances before being released at the end of the season. His spell at the club did at least end in promotion as the Valiants finished the 1985-1986 season in fourth place in the Fourth Division.
After leaving Burslem, he later moved on to a spell with Barrow where he ended his playing career. He had made over 500 senior appearances during his fifteen year playing career.
