Brian Taylor was a winger who joined Port Vale FC from Shrewsbury Town for a fee of £3,000 in 1965.
The experienced winger had begun his career at Walsall and had earlier spells at Birmingham City (for whom he cost a fee of £10,000) and Rotherham United.
Taylor was a regular in his first season at Vale Park, scoring three times in 43 appearances. However, after he lost his starting place in the 1966-67 season, he was released by the Valiants in May 1967 and he later joined Barnsley on a free transfer. His Port Vale spell had lasted 53 games and four goals.
After leaving Barnsley, where he won promotion, he had a spell in non-league football with Kidderminster Harriers, Bromsgrove Rovers and Welshpool Town among others. He finished his thirteen year playing career with over 350 appearances and almost fifty goals to his name.
