Brian Mills player profile:
Locally-born Brian Mills was a small but pacy striker who had progressed through the Port Vale junior ranks. He signed as a professional in 1990 and went on to make his full debut for Port Vale in the final game of the 1990-91 season. He showed his huge promise with two goals in that game – a 3-1 win over Swindon Town.
He was called up for the England U19 side where he started in the 1991 Youth Championships. Mills made regular appearances in the 1991-92 season and scored three more senior goals.
Tragically, his career was ended in 1992 as he suffered a rare virus which saw him hospitalised. He was subsequently forced to retire from the game and became a power lifter and school teacher.
