There’s no place for it, no excuse for it
OVF editor Rob Fielding is appalled by the latest incident of racism at Vale Park.
Rob Fielding writes…
Sadly, another start to a season has been tarnished by accusations of racist abuse from a section of the Port Vale crowd.
While I recognise that the majority of fans are free from blame, this minority of idiots are doing their best to make Port Vale FC footballing pariahs (perhaps they’ll need to look that last word up – here’s a link).
It’s time like this when I genuinely get ashamed to be associated with a club that has such people in its supporter base…
What is it with these people? What do they think Vale players like Mark Marshall and newcomer Jordan Slew will think about their actions? Indeed, what do they think any of the Vale squad or staff think about what they were hearing?
It’s time like this when I genuinely get ashamed to be associated with a club that has such people in its supporter base.
I have supported Port Vale for over thirty years and in that time I have seen some pretty bad times, some pretty bad decisions go against us and witnessed teams and players beating us who I actually don’t like. But at no time have I ever felt compelled to use racist abuse during any of those occasions.
I’m hugely disappointed that anyone in this day and age would consider it acceptable too. And if you do, I really don’t want you associated with the team I support.
If you do know who was engaged in the abuse at the weekend, please contact Kick It Out anonymously through this link and report it.
Football still remains the beautiful game, we have a duty to not let others spoil it.
