Players: Vale were embarrassing
Carl Dickinson and Jennison Myrie-Williams concede that the performance against Crewe Alexandra was unacceptable.
“I think people can take losing, but the way we played was not good enough at all, from start to finish…
Dickinson, Vale’s best defender this season, commented: “I think people can take losing, but the way we played was not good enough at all, from start to finish.
“Especially in the first half hour, we were awful. The game could have been finished by then which is really disappointing, especially in a derby.
“All credit to Crewe, they wanted it more than we did and I think that showed with the scoreline.
“Everything that could have gone wrong, did. I have said before that a game was probably just a bad day at the office, but I don’t think that one was. We just weren’t good enough from the first whistle.
“We need to roll our sleeves up and make sure something like that doesn’t happen again because it was embarrassing.”
I think the players have to take most of the responsibility, if not all of it, for the result…
Myrie-Williams added: “I think the players have to take most of the responsibility, if not all of it, for the result.
“We have done that. We have come in and worked our socks off.
“We know it was a big game for the supporters and the local bragging rights. We could have done a lot more things right than we did on Saturday.”
