Marc Richards bids are turned down
Port Vale turned down two offers for captain Marc Richards in the hours before Thursday’s loan deadline passed.
Shrewsbury Town and an unnamed League One side approached the Vale administrators hoping to lure away the 15-goal top scorer.
Administrator Bob Young told the Sentinel: Young said: “There was an approach for Richards from two clubs, but we decided we need to keep him here.
“We could have saved money on wages and brought in a loan fee, but he is the top scorer and we still probably need another win to be sure of staying in the division.
“The side has been playing well of late, but there is not much room to manoeuvre outside the first team if we were to suffer from injuries or suspensions.
“If Marc had been itching to leave it may have been a different matter, but he has won a lot of respect for the way he has gone about his business as captain. He is dedicated to the cause.”
