William Aitken was a Scottish footballer who began his playing career with Queens Park and Glasgow Rangers. The forward joined Port Vale FC in the summer 1919 for a fee of £500 (in addition to Peter Pursell). He was then sold to Newcastle United for a fee of £2,500 in 1920. He later had a spell as manager with Italian club Juventus and had a spell as a player-coach in the French Leagues.
