Hit and run at Rochdale Station

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I was one of the group involved in the accident, fortunately I didn't need hospital treatment but my two mates did - they are both discharged now but extremely lucky. If anybody knows anything or saw the incident please get in touch with GMP or PM me and I will pass it on. Thanks for all your comments and good wishes.

Do you know if the police have got anyone for it yet?

Spoke to the old bill, CID ringing me in next couple of days... We're Defo not Rochdale fans... They tried to lure a group of vale fans down a street in the estate, when everyone walked back to the station for a taxi that's when the car with the group of Asians inside ran them over... The thud it made was disgusting...! Should get sent down for attempted murder!

You are spot on! I witnessed the incident outside the pub five minutes or so earlier. I was shouting my son at the time time of the accident who was standing a matter of yards away from the injured vale fans. I saw the car approach very slowly before speeding up to hit the two victims.

My sixteen year old son was/is quite shaken by the incident... I spoke to five police officers throughout the day, all of which denied all knowledge of the incident.

On returning back to the station after the game I again asked about the injured fans and if the driver had been caught, no comment was the reply. I told the police that i had seen the incident and was told to go and catch my train. I went onto to say that I also saw the earlier incident in the side street at which point the police took my details.

What is really annoying is that a number of police officers who in my view were trying to be clever sent vale fans, myself included, the wrong way from the station which lead to the orginal trouble from the asian lads. That is why in my view the police are playing this incident down.

I'm interested whether GMP actually contact for a statement, however I'm not holding my breath.

Im both annoyed and sickened by the events of yesterday!

Glad to hear they are ok and he can get back on his ladders cleaning windows :)! Just wish I caught the whole registration! Horrible horrible human beings..! I think that GMP are intimidated by the power the community has in Rochdale and that's why I fear this will be soon forgotten!

Just got back from A&E, no long term damage just sore. I believe one arrest has been made lets hope the other two follow quickly.

Warehouse999 you are right he will be back on his ladders tomorrow, unfortunately he's cleaning my windows !!!! Can i just make it clear that this had nothing to do with football hooligans as stated in a national newspaper as far as i am concerned there were no Rochdale fans present.

I got to Rochdale at about 2.15 and a large group of us got led to the ground on foot by the Police. I thought at the time they were sending us a strange way across town.

Retracing the route on Google Maps, we went down Lower Tweedale Street, turned on to Milkstone Road. We walked all the way down there then left on to Drake Street, right on to Park Street and straight through the park which leads you out on to the Esplanade, right in front of the Police station and the new college building.

They led us through a lot of narrow streets with a what seemed to be a large Asian community, there were lot of corner shops and takeaways, many local residents and shopkeepers were stood on the street either looking concerned or aggressive towards us (maybe they thought it was another EDL march) and I can imagine how leading us that way could have generated tension. It was a funny route to lead us down.

If you have reason to believe it was racially motivated, I'm sure GMP will pursue it as recent media coverage shows, they're supposed to be pretty good at dealing with 'hate' crimes at the minute.
