Promotion Maths after Rochdale

We are on 76. Maximum points our rivals can get looks like:

Burton 79

Cheltenham 77

Rotherham 79

Northampton 77

Bradford 74

So, because of our superior GD, we need to get 3 points to stop Burton and Rotherham catching us, and 1 to stop Chelts and Northampton. It will all be clearer though on Tuesday when Rotherham and Northampton play their game in hand.

Think this is right!

what a huge week of fixtures though

Bradford v Roverum and Wycombe v Northampton - if Northampton fail to win they cant catch us. I hope to god that Bradford win

Then on Saturday , its Bradford v Burton and Exeter v Cheltenham with the home teams both desperate for 3 points to stay in with a shout of the play offs

Its also Plymouth v Roverum - Plymouth probably wont be mathematically safe so will also be desperate for a home win

Everyone is saying Vale were 90 seconds from automatic promotion - not true.

Burton's late goal means that even if we had won at Rochdale, we would still not have been promoted, as Vale would have 78 points, and both Rotherham and Burton can reach 79.

Hope this makes everyone feel a little better (oh, and credit to Andyregs who pointed it out on the match thread but I felt it may be missed there).

The match reports about it being agonisingly snatched away from us are not correct - so no woe please. It'' ll come and it will be all the sweeter when it does.

We were as good as up until the equaliser. People can talk about mathematics all they want - if they've got a decent grasp they'll also realise how unlikely it will be that Rotherham win 3 out of 3, Burton win 2 out of 2, and Vale lose 2 out of 2. It's still very unlikely that we'll mess it up, but obviously considerably more nervy with 2 less points than we would've had, and more teams can potentially catch us. Still a wonderful position to be in, however, still a real kick in the teeth today.

If Bradford City win all their last 3 games, we are promoted with the 76 points we have now and could even lose to Northampton and still go up. Bradford play Rotherham on tuesday, Burton next saturday and Cheltenham on the final day.

liking your post - I've been glued to the tables and fixtures for the last hour

the bradford fans are getting twitchy on their forum though
