gillingham need to win to gain promotion

Recommended Posts

Just noticed this on the BBC sport website.

Gillingham could become the first Football League side to be promoted this Saturday if:

- They beat Torquay and two of Northampton, Burton (who play on Friday) and Rotherham fail to pick up maximum points. (A Gillingham win would automatically put them out of Cheltenham's reach).

- They draw with Torquay and Cheltenham fail to win and Burton and Rotherham both lose.

A win puts them on 82. Is this the points target for us I was thinking more 78/9. Thoughts please

(sorry its another one of these threads)

Gillingham could get promoted on Tuesday as well without kicking a ball if other sides drop points. Would like see Gillingham drag it out as long as possible before confirming it as they've got Cheltenham next weekend. Dont want them take their foot off the peddle.

If we target to get more points than the team finishing in 4th and win our games, we'll be promoted.

There's so many permutations, you could drive yourself crackers working them out.

I think I'm right in saying that whatever happens, if we win 3 more games we can't be caught.

A win tonight would put us 7 clear of Burton with 4 games left each. That should really see them off as a threat.

It would also put us 6 clear of Cobblers and Cheltenham with the latter only having 4 games left.

It all leads to the conclusion that home wins tonight and Tuesday would all but seal it.

No because 3 more wins would put us on 80,both Northampton and Rotheram can get 82. However if we win the 3 home games, then yes.

No because Rotherham and Northampton can still get 82 and 83. However will all 3 home games, then yes we are up.
