Di Canio named Sunderland manager

Recommended Posts

Completely agree with blackandwhitedave and Jacko.

If di Canio regularly falls out with L1 and L2 players how will he deal with PL ones?

And I agree his promotion record was achieved at least in part because Swindon spent loads. Is it any wonder they went into financial meltdown as a result?

In many ways, Swindon bankrolled promotion and it could be argued got it despite di Canio's own efforts to self-destruct (falling out with the goalkeeper, the captain etc). I wonder if, for example, someone like O'Driscoll had been at Swindon with the same money then perhaps he would have quietly and professionally won promotion maybe without the egomania, volatility and histrionics that di Canio brings.

To be fair many managers have had money and failed, it isn't a guarantee. Fair enough, he's had some money so withhold some judgement on his credentials but he deserves credit for his record so far, money or not.

Always a difficult point, this 'as long as he's not physically hurting someone'.

By extending your logic, you should also be happy then to have someone who thinks paedophilia should be legal and encouraged, and perhaps someone who thinks suicide bombing of innocents is ok - these would be fine as managers/directors too ?

Not really. Peadophillia isn't a political view point and it certainly brings physical and emotional harm to people. The same with suicide bombers.

Facism is no different than Commininism, Solicialism and even Capitalism. Just different sides of a political viewpoint.

I missed his fascist comments, so I guess he needs a black mark against him for those. I observe there is little difference between fascism and socialism. It is just the number of beneficiaries of economic and wealth redistribution is smaller and the methods of control switch from the committee room to the gun.

So a massive difference then!

Well sort of, but he has mounted a spirited defence.

I was listening to an Radio 4 discussion on Italy in the car. This informs my views on him a bit. One of the problems in Italy is the family business. Businesses will only employ family and perhaps friends and exclude anyone else. So if you are a well educated person but not from a family with a business, well you are likely to find it hard to get employed in a job that is right for your level of education and skills. With that type of way of doing things one can see how corruption has a strong hold in government in Italy and indeed how fascism could be seen to be a viable option or just the way life is.

Frankly, Miliband has a first from Cambridge and Masters from MIT, two of the top universities in the world, and I expect a bit more from him than grand standing. To me it shows up again a weakness in him that surfaced when he undermined democracy by allowing the wholly inadequate Brown to become Prime Minister when some one with more determination and focus would have saved the country from this debacle.

I respect Milibands decision although, circumstances may be in his favour; American wife, job opportunity and adopted kids over there.

Socialism and fascism on a par? one crushes equality the other supports it! It's like trying to say Mandela and Thatcher were the same.

I wore my Livorno top last year at Swindon.
