Game in which Mark Grew got injured?

Does anyone remember a game in which Grewy got injured and Trevor Wood replaced him? It was around 89/90 at Vale Park and I seem to remember it was against a south coast team, maybe Pompey or Plymouth.

Any help regarding team/scorer/goal scorers would be appreciated.

Cheers

There was a game when Grew got injured at Oxford, first day of the 90/91 season. I think he might have stayed on that day though. We lost 5-2.

Wood played the next game and kept his place for a few months until Oldham away he went off injured on the Boundary Park plastic. on that day Paul Millar went in goal.

Pretty sure was Rotherham at home 1 all draw. long time ago tho lol.

Yeah, think that was a couple of games into the start of the 86-87 season (maybe even the first home game?) so it would have been August/September 1986. Not sure if Andy Jones went in goal to replace the injured Grew, and was it Richard O'Kelly that scored as he had a purple patch of goals in his first few games for us (got 5 in his first 5 games, or something like that).

Grew was then out for a long time. We signed Alex Williams as his replacement (good keeper from what I remember) but he, too, got injured and had to retire. Did we then get Jim Arnold back out of retirement for a short spell to cover?

It was August 30th 1986, our first home game against Rotherham, think Grewy did his knee in and was out for most of that season if not all of it, Andy Jones went in goal and we also lost Alan Webb for a period during the game while he got a bad cut to his head stitched up but he returned later bandaged up and covered in blood.

1990? Really, 23 years ago? Wow, I remember that day clearly - I was only 10, sitting in the upper tier of a stand along the side of the pitch, Trevor Wood in goal to my right. He gets injured but tries to carry on, eventually takes a goal kick and collapses onto one knee, then is carried off.

Now If only I could remember where I left my slippers...

Wood did OK as I remember. He made one great save and wasn't at fault for the goals though we lost the game.

I remember that game too. At the time, it seemed like Rudgie was having bad luck with injuries to keepers because Alex Williams was always getting crocked too. With Grew injured just a few games into his Vale career it looked like it would be two injury-prone goalies in a row, but thankfully Mark bounced back to make 200-odd appearances.
