Exeter 20 years on

Next weeks game against Exeter is almost 20 years to the day since the two teams met in the area final of the auto glass trophy, vale winning 2-1 at home in the first leg and with Bernie Slaven's dramatic equaliser in the away leg enough to send us to Wembley for the very first time, the emotion and jubilation I felt that night will live with me forever, hard to believe it was that long ago

It was the 21st of April 1993 so not exactly 20 years to the day.

I was referring to the 1st leg at home which I believe was the 16th March so as I say 20 years barring a couple of weeks

Not sure about that, eh up nah. Walsall was pretty good this year and that was only the 2nd round (albeit a little bit easier to get to).

Was gonna say it was an area final and St James Park(Exeter) only holds about 8K. I'd expect them to get a decent gate for a game now for the right to go to Wembley(Exeter aren't a big club but they've not badly supported compared to some teams in this league).

Good away following from us though as it's a hell of a way for a week night game. We did take 2K to Lincoln as well didn't we back in 2001?

 

I would say Football League Trophy games generally are pretty poorly attended however I still think the latter stages are well supported and mean something to clubs if Coventry can pull in 30K for their area final. After all they are a club that has won the FA Cup and been in Europe in the past so winning the JPT is hardly a life time achievement award for them historically!
