As you ponder the rest of eternity Bill, rest in peace. A Vale man who loved this club, and saw it through the best period in the last half century - that's good enough for me.

Posted a thread long before the last few days sad news about bill bell on the 30/09/12. Largely got shot down in flames by my fellow fans for saying the best man in port vale history brilliant business man. A true fan we will never see the like of him again R I P.

For me our best ever chairman (yes I do remember his faults) but the best time ever to be a Vale fan. Chasing promotion to the Premier League, many, many Cup successes, ground changed beyond recognition, Best team in the Pottries (Stoke in a league BELOW us at times - how weird does that seem now?) Vale man through and through. RIP Belly - hope we make you proud up there in a couple of months and so glad you saw better times coming back to VP before you left us. Thank you mate. Told my daughter, didn't think she would remember but she said "oh no - Iv'e got a picture of me with him" - you will be remembered old son!! Wonder how your successor will be remembered when his time comes?

I fell out with him big time toe to toe and in the end he stayed longer than he should have, But if anyone cant remember the times before he took over, we could never in our wildest dreams were he and Rudgey would take us, yes i fell out and didn't agree with him on many many things but he was the very best chairman we had, If Paul and Smurf bring half the glory i will be a very happy Vale fan, yes we fell out, But i loved the man, A VALE LEGEND.:D

Paul Wildes ‏@PaulWildes

As a mark of respect Im not going to be sitting in the chairmans seat tomorrow Bill Bells family will sit beside the seat he'd have sat in

thats a really clever and nice gesture by paul, i'm sure the family will find it a emotional day and i hope it may heal some of the past and continue to take us to a new future

RIP Mr Bell and thoughts with his family who I used to deal with as part of my job. But without being in anyway disrespectful, there has been quite a few pairs of rose tinted specs worn on this thread. Great times under his chairmanship, the best, but certain things shouldnt be forgotten or rewritten IMHO

100% correct.

The Rudgie and Bell partnership gave us belief and pride in our Club after many years of being way down the pecking order in this city and beyond. My dad was in Bills class at school and even then Bill was a wheeler dealer and actually paid my dad to do his sums for him. Thats probably why Bills figures were never that good, as for me my dad was certain that my pockey money was 50p a week even though the coin had 10p written on it. I have fond memories of shaking Bills hand on the pitch at Exeter after we had secured a place in the Autoglass final, he really was Vale through and through.
