He was... Even so look at their thread they seem very confident of a victory. I think it will be a tough game but we certainly should be too strong for the likes of Barnet.

It may be like the away game at Wimbledon - a tight pitch and them at us from the start. We left it too late to start playing and without two awesome individual goals we would have lost. Adams has to get them working from the start. A draw is a good result for us there I think.

...with a couple of lads commenting on the "tight pitch" at Barnet, I had a look at the football League Ground Guide to see how small their pitch was. It turns out to be (if the Guide's figures are correct) the joint 5th largest playing area in our division!

 

Underhill 115 x 75yds = area of 8625 sq yds

Vale Park 114 x 77yds = area of 8778 sq yds

 

While Vale have the largest playing area in our division, Barnet's is not too far behind.

Surprisingly, Chesterfield and Bradford have the 2 smallest playing surfaces!!

 

...and anyway, I had nowt else to do!!!

IF we're serious about winning this division this is the type of game we need to win and Micky Adams knows that, it's just a question of how much the players realise it and take it seriously enough. Players like Purse & Hughes know it and surely some of the others must too.

 

I think today's result will be largely influenced by players winning their personal battles and ours should win them all. The most interesting one should be Burge vs. Davids (assuming Loft doesn't get that one!) and if I were Micky I'd be setting Ryan that challenge, to come out on top against a great but ageing player; an achievable outcome but one that should test him.

 

Take this game lightly and we'll lose but if the team is serious and positive we'll win it. Come on Vale!!
