If we could guarantee it then the play off's would be the best way both for supporters (great day out) and club (money wise). However you cannot guarantee it so automatic would be best all round, and if we could become champions that would be perfect as I have never seen us top any league in over 50 years supporting the Vale.

I think the OP is saying that if you could guarantee winning the play offs which way would you prefer to go up, and for me it would be the play offs as you get the added excitement of two massive games before winning at Wembley. Obviously as you can guarantee winning the play offs we'll have to settle for automatic!

 

I know what you mean. I think most fans would settle for a victorious day out at Wembley over automatic promotion and maybe even top spot, but as you rightly state their are no guarantees in football and defeat at Wembley is heartbreaking as we all know!

Well I can't see us getting top spot, but with a couple of astute signings in January I can see us holding on to an automatic slot, Chesterfield, Southend, Cheltenham, Rotherham, and Bradford all looking strong though, might get a bit squeaky bum before May...

Yep I agree he is however if anyone seriously thinks we as fans deserve the agony of the play offs after such a good start to the season after the crap we have put up with over the last 15 years they are clinically crackers!!!!

Got to be automatic promotion, playoffs are just another money making racket that were originally intended for 1 or 2 seasons to reduce the size of the premier league.

Alluding to the notion that the OP reckons we would win the Play-off Final, that would be nice if only to aid erase the memories of our tie v WBA. But it's too much of a lottery so automatic at least for me.
