Watching on TV it was very clear first half that the wind was holding up the ball from Ripleys kicks and it definitely favoured Accrington in the first half.
Second half it didn't seem so prevalent.
Considering the players changed ends before kick-off it would be interesting to know which Captain won the toss but I would expect it may well have been theirs.
Who knows how the game may have panned out if we had kicked with the wind first half.

I think they must have won the toss because they usually kick the other way in the first half.

Whoever won the toss turned the teams around, I'm assuming whoever lost the toss had the kick off.

I stood on the back corner of the away end and it was definitely windy, blowing from corner to the opp. corner which they utilised well first half. Second half the wind died a little and became a bit more gusty. Their goalkeeper aimed a lot of kicks towards the corner forcing Cover to back track a lot and therefore gave them time to close him down. BBB was clattered in the first few minutes and did not want to know the rest of the half, likewise Garrity towards the end of the half when their player went straight through the back of him,  but, the ref played on.

I think one positive is that v's what happened at Barrow, we didn't collapse second half and kept going to the end, rather than just slump to a 3 or 4-0 loss.

The biggest difference was that the subs had a positive impact on Saturday whereas v Barrow they had the opposite effect.  To be fair some of the changes were forced on us in the Barrow game.  Hart off injured and then John subbed due to “overloading”.   Dipepa came on and looked lost, possibly the weight of a potential moved playing on his mind.  Who knows?

We’ve played more games and trained together for longer now so players know their roles plus they can play more minutes now by the look of it.

In the first half in particular,  Ripley’s clearances were fading in the wind and I suspect it was difficult to track the flight of the ball. As I said above, the water from the sprinklers was being blown back. All goals were scored “with the wind”. I think the scrappy nature of the whole game was partially a result of the wind. It was, however, also the result of generally crap play!

You can see the breeze tousling AB7’s hair in his aftermatch interview vid that’s for sure.  Hard to say how strong it was.  The fact that it was blowing a bit of sprinkler water about isn’t really a great indicator.  I’d say the fact we didn’t score early on from a couple, or more, great positions we found ourselves in was more down to ‘crap play’ of our own rather than the fact we were against the wind.  Easy to forget that early on we were creating half chances where we either chose the wrong option or didn’t execute the pass or shot.  The first goal was key and they took the initiative thereafter.  I’d also suggest that they chose to sit on their lead second half rather than being pegged back by the wind and it was this approach, coupled with time wasting and our subs which actually cost them.

It’s never going to be easy to play much football on the deck there as it’s quite compact and there’s less time to get the ball down and get your head up.  Fair to say any sort of a breeze will only compound this.

Am I being short-sighted or are there no extended highlights on PVTV for the Accrington v Port Vale game?

Just the brief 2 mins 12 secs highlights twice?

Full match replay is up mate 👍🏻 Not sure about extended highlights

I was in the seats and I can confirm I was frying. Thought I’d get bloody heatstroke.

Powerline, the wind has no effect on the intensity of the sun's rays on earth. However the wind may produce a tad of cooling by evaporation of the sweat on your skin but the short wave UV radiation will burn you red raw if you remain directly exposed to it.

Hence why people may get burned worse on a sunny, windy day. I found out the hard way at Skeggy one day.

Don't wish to labor this point but on the short highlights on Youtube the wind can be heard howling both halves.

If Vale had kicked with the wind first half BBB in particular would have caused Accy  problems with his inswinging, curling, "floating" crosses aimed for Stockleys et al's head and their keeper would have had a tough time judging the flight of those crosses, I believe it would have been a different game.

If an Accy player got the choice to make the call to kick with the wind 1st half, he made a good call.

Yes, I saw the full match replay link but can’t cope with watching all of that again … 😳🙂

I was looking for the normal in-between version of about 15 minutes which they normally create.

 Thank you anyway for looking.

Trust me, the wind wouldn’t have made a much of a difference to BBB’s performance on the day.  He had good situations first half kicking into the wind which we didn’t capitalise on.  Stockley would’ve faced the same problem he had all game, being wrestled with no protection from the ref.  Anyway, I’ve harped on about it long enough.

Yep me too GR but we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

In Mike Baggaley's substack thsi week it says:
