To panic buy now Treacle V is the worst thing we vould do.

We lost today, melt down is not pretty requisite of a defeat.

Look at the 3 midfield subs who all were coming back from injury - you can't flick a switch and make them match fit. But with matches they will get fit and their effectiveness will be far more successful.

Our injured players will get fit, our management team will bring in strikers who will take the club forward.

Panic buy now and all it will give us is dross that will make survival that much harder.

What do we do end August if our top pics do not sign...

Weren't you the one give everyone stick for being upset gibbo left??

Aren't you chuffed he's been replaced with a a bloke who isn't fit enough to start the season, while gibbo picks up motm awards at brizzle

Not really -  wasn't that fussed, though, to be honest. In fact, I stated he'd have been off in January if it hadn't been for injury! New players. or new to the team players often need time to settle in. Why would it be different now, just because a Valiant favourite CHOSE to leave?

But we knew all that a year ago. We knew in January that we'd need a new keeper and the management presumably knew we would need strikers back then too. I don't buy all these excuses for not being ready for the new season. There should have been plans in place to cover both League One and League Two, not all this blaming that we didn't know which league we'd be in. Grimsby, Sunderland and Forest all went up via the play-offs and they've managed to get full squads together.

Grimsby have one point from two games and Forest had an extra week to get their squad together, a squad which failed to get a shot on target today and were, apparently, played off the park at Newcastle.   And this despite spending more than £80 million!

Sandyford you trusted the process along with everyone else last week and were happy to sign up to it, then we lose a match.

All this panic when all you have to do is let the Management team get on with what they are paid to do.

They are professionals we are fans

Just chill.

I don’t really get the Massey situation at the minute. How unfit must the bloke be to not have been named on the bench today? Been weeks since we signed him with multiple opportunities to get minutes under his belt, yet even when we have a 17 year old starting up top out of position he still isn’t named in the match day squad
Strange in that Massey played a shed full of league games last season and then was released so ok no preseason. But come on you are a player who is getting released but wants a new club. So who in that position isn't going to keep yourself fit even if it means training on your own to attract a new club and be able to hit the ground running. Massey ???

Derby? What does that have to do with anything?

I'm guessing Howjy04 was suggesting that Derby signing experienced players, on big fat wages is no guarantee of success - so maybe it's not a model we should be following?

Its a strange one; as with everything with the club these days, its behind closed doors.

Considerably more than we were prepared to pay I hear.

That isnt the case. He turned down offers to join clubs who were offering more than we were (mainly as a number 2). He was at Wycombe at the same time as our GK coach (your ex GK) Scott Brown and has signed for us on a one year deal only as a means of putting himself in the shop window for a bigger move next season back into the Championship. Maybe your club have been looking at keepers who you want to commit longer than a one season deal? We only wanted a keeper on a one year deal as we are developing a keeper in our Academy who we hope will become our No1 in a year or two.

I heard we had offered him two years but he only wanted one which seemed bizarre.

And Sunderland are currently looking at the Prem, if you want to play that game.

Honestly, do you think we should and could have done better with our pre-season (and present) preparations?

I said this last week and got laughing emojis 'cause we'd won but if Stoke had gone in to their season with a partially complete squad (1 fit striker and 1 keeper) and a lack of match sharpness, and interviewing players via zoom from Spain, we'd have been laughing our heads off at them.

Not really. He hasn't played enough games for a keeper of his age so wanted to sign for a club (in this case Exeter) who would play him for 40+ games then he is ready to make the step back up to the Championship the following season. Therefore, he didnt want a 2 yr deal with any club that wont be in the Championship next season. He clearly saw how we progressed Cam Dawson last season (keeper on loan from Sheff Wed) and thought Exeter offered him the best option for this season.

Thanks for that, player contracts are not always as straightforward as we think they are.

Today’s result should serve as a wake up call for the powers that be at Vale. Time to get the cheque book open next week Carol. The trouble is, who will we get in now who is any good? Been saying it for weeks and have been getting shot down for it, recruitment has been shocking and today’s result demonstrates this. We have started the season with a worse squad than what we finished last season with and are we now in a higher division. I feared the worse when we couldn’t keep hold of Gibbons.

Yawn
