Match thread: Kidsgrove Athletic v Port Vale, friendly 7/7/22

Recommended Posts

With a full set of friendlies straight after the play offs, Vale would essentially be playing an 100 game season. The players are being managed so they can be ramped up at the right time for the start of the season, not run into the ground having just been through the emotional and physical toll of the playoff run. I think it’s quite simple and understandable. The players will have just been asked to keep themselves in shape eating and personal fitness wise.

Does anyone who went have any views on how Robinson played?

Not really seen much of him. No idea if he is a talent we are going to phase in slowly, or whether we should send him out on loan to avoid an alex hurst type situation.

He only played the first 45 and did nowt wrong. The centre back trialist looked decent.

What position did he play Jean? RWB or RCB?

My memory of it is blurred by alcohol but I think he played in the centre of the 3.  We had a young lad at RCB and Robinson at RWB.  Jones was LCB.  Robinson was OK.  The pitch was a bit too dry (© Ben Garner) for slick football.  The young lads second half look very technical but no physicality, a bit like watching the Prem U23’s in the Mickey Mouse Cup.

How unfit can professional footballers get in 4-5 weeks? We stopped playing a month after the rest of L1 so we should be up to back speed far quicker.

I agree - they had 3 weeks longer to prepare for and then play high-stress games. Means they ought not be as far from fitness as a usual close season. Plus, other than when new faces come in, the lads all know each other and what systems we play...it's really saved us from coming back to training "cold".
