Things to bear in mind for the new season

We're not going to win every game

We will play poorly, at times

Players will make mistakes

This is our first season back in L1 after years in the doldrums

When we concede a goal it does not mean the season is over

'The process' does not need ripping up after a few poor results

442 is not a magic solution to all footballs woes

We should have kept Pope

Who will be this season's boo boy now the often under-estimated* Aaron Martin has gone?

*I'm not saying he should have stayed but I felt he was a decent, experienced squad bloke to have last season and not the error-prone disaster some seemed to think...

Stone. I think that even if he played out of his skin every game, elements of the fanbase will never take to him.

Or we could ask who will be this season's successes?

Why do fans even need a boo boy, never understand the one.

My radical idea is not have one this season, lets just get behind every single player even if we don't think they are are upto it!

I think / hope that's what a lot of fans did last season. It only takes a minority to get the lemmings going.

There's always going to be players fans don't rate as much as others. I'm not sure that is the same as 'boo boys'!

I'm not sure I've ever seen a Vale fan purposely not back/boo a specific player during a game. They might complain about them to their mates or not want to see them in the line up, but that's fairly normal!

I always back the boys to the hilt during the game, but there's also players I'd rather not see start/don't rate as much as others. I can't pretend that Harry Charsley is as good as Tom Conlon, try as I might!

Never understand this boo boy stuff. 9 times out of 10 the reason the player is being criticised is because they haven’t been very good…. Of course some take it too far and the player can never do anything right but usually it’s just because the player hasn’t played well
