5 subs in L1 next season

Can foresee a few consequences of this:

a) clubs with bigger budgets can keep more players happy as the minute can be shared around more easily

b) clubs with bigger budgets can influence games late on as the quality of their subs will be significantly better than the clubs with the smaller budgets

c) clubs will be more keen to adopt high-intensity approaches early on in games, safe in the knowledge that half the outfield players can be rotated

d) more young players have a pathway to minutes. 3-0 up at home? Lob on the promising youngster for valuable experience

We had quite a good record of coming back into games last season. Maybe this fits our approach. Will change squad-building a fair bit.

Great summary of the potential impact - perhaps a similar mindset now required as that used in rugby Union?  Should we be surprised that it’s in line with DC’s mantra about it not being just about putting out your best 11 on the pitch but the quality of the whole squad, so any subs should be just as good as those they replace either on a like for like basis or good enough if a tactical change is needed.  How refreshing it is to have a proactive management and recruitment team that appear to be ahead of the game when it comes to dealing with changes the authorities  introduce.

It's interesting, since the start of last season, I've always viewed Vale under DC as a team who 'segments' games up and approaches each chunk differently. We've often come out the traps with energy and pressing for 20, scored, then sat deep. Against Mansfield we had a 10 minute 'flurry' and then game managed. We rarely dominate a team for 90 but pick a time to strike, go all out, and then protect whatever we've gained in that timeframe. This fits with how Flitters describes DC as seeing each game as a 'project'.

It seems coordinated, and often timed with the serendipitous 'water breaks' we seem to benefit from when one of our player inevitably gets injured before making a miraculous recovery.

5 subs may benefit DC in this way. He seems like a manager who loves in-game alterations.

I just worry about what this will do to the spectacle of watching a game.

1-0 down. 85th minute. Game killed with 5 subs every 2 mins.

Surely the rule from the lockdown season will come back? Can only interrupt the game three times? So there would be the same amount of stoppages, you can just bring on more players. Hope that's the case anyway.

Correct - 5 subs over 3 in-game stoppages. You also get chance to make changes at half time which doesn't count towards these stoppages.

This is current approach in MLS and has been so since the restart of football since the pandemic. The amount of late goals increases due to the extra fresh legs and all-in-all adds to the excitement and unpredictability of the game.

If the Vale recruitment team do their jobs well this summer we should see more players coming into the club that can come on and make an impact when these extra late changes are made. In theory, it should also reduce the amount of injuries if done correctly.

That would make sense.

Shame we never had the chance to see Micky Adams make 5 changes at half time

Really looking forward to going the New Lawn this coming season. Apparently,FGR will be using fans' wee to water the pitch next season.New toilet units are being installed in the away end which will "convert fans' urine into clean water and a concentrated fertiliser, both of which can keep the pitch in top condition".
