Billy Bingham RIP

prof

Recommended Posts

I see that Billy Bingham has died. He was Vale's record signing in 1963 and played one season for us before breaking his leg and retiring.

I have an image in my mind of him scoring at the Hamil end, but I'm not sure what game it was. He played for Sunderland and Everton, of course, and later managed Everton, Mansfield, and Northern Ireland (twice).

I remember Billy Bingham playing at the Vale but can't remember any of his goals, he played on the right wing. He came to Vale from Everton late on in his career,  he was a Northern Ireland International.

63/64, a game I remember, probably his best was Wrexham away when he scored both goals in a 2-1 win. we had finished 3rd the season before so splashed out on a promotion push to augment Grainger with Bingham and Cheeseborough, but to no avail apart from a cup run.

Fosse now there's a name from the past, Albert Cheeseborough, also did Arthur Longbottom play around that time, it was rumored he was going to change his surname but I can't remember if he did. Apols I digress.
