Favourite Vale game

As the dust has settled on a brilliant weekend, I got to thinking what was my favourite Vale game and last Saturday won hands down, to win so convincingly to win a deserved promotion in the manner we did it gets it top marks followed by the other play off game v Bristol Rovers and in 3rd place Everton at home in the Cup.

 

What are others thoughts

Because it's fresh in the memory it's got to be 

1. Mansfield 

2.Swindon 

3.Spurs

1) Mansfield last week, the day, the occasion and obviously the result, after 60 years I don't know when I'll be back there, sharing it with my 8 year old grandson and my lads was special. 

2) Bristol Rovers in the play off game at Vale Park.

3) Spurs.

4) Liverpool '64 FA Cup

5) Everton.

Finally any game when we've beaten that lot down the road.

Not had that much to shout about over the years really, which makes last week all the sweeter.

Huddersfield 0 Vale 4, because of the magnitude of the result and what it meant to the Lard

Port Vale 3 Sunderland 1 at the beginning of the 97/98 season.  That was the game where Tony Naylor scored THAT goal.  We opened the scoring in the first few minutes through Lee Mills.  Sunderland were hotly tipped for promotion, and finished 3rd.

That day we were simply magnificent and put Sunderland in the shade Even their manager Peter Reid acknowledged how good we were that day

Stoke 1 Vale 1 Simply because after many years of grief we played them in a league game and scored first. Still my biggest celebration for a goal.

And their 15 times deflected goal. Jeoson missed that header after Futcher hit the bar.

I agree with this, for the reasons given. I also think that, even when our memories of last Saturday have faded a bit, this Mansfield game will still stand out.

Other than that, an all-time favourite of mine was the 5-3 win over Exeter in our Fourth Division championship season.

The watergate moment in the 3-0 home win against tge tge joke : Regis wheeled away thinking he had scored and Peter Swan pointe at the  ball in the puddle and said, “nope, there it is” and the crowd roundly laughed!

Some great suggestions but for me it was the FA Cup v the 5h1te simply because I worked on a large factory with many fans from both teams, so intense rivalry, plus the fact we smashed them playing football in those horrendous conditions.  After that it’d be a toss up between the Spurs game, which was given huge coverage as such a massive upset at the time, many older non-Vale fans remember it still, and the Everton games, which were two of the most complete performances from Vale I’ve ever witnessed, especially given the calibre of opposition.

Saturday is definitely in my top 5.

Stoke in the 3-1 home win, FA cup in the mud

Spurs 2-1 victory, it’s what started my love for the Vale

3-1 win at Brighton, only match I’ve seen 5 pitch invasions

3-2 win at Blackpool, despite not going up

3-2 win at Derby, ended up in the over spill section with so many locked out of the ground.

3 seems the magic number.
