Didn't Newcastle famously give Pardew an 8 year deal once ?
Football is notoriously fickle and i'd of thought 3 years would of been the norm but we can trust the current set up to have all the fine details spot on i'm sure.
Seem to remember a rumour Pardew had a gambling debt to pay off and that contract was connected in some way.

I find it strange that you can be happy about something possibly upsetting someone that you have never met. (As far as we both know). But whatever floats your boat...

In all fairness we find your views on DC a bit strange

Are you upset RZ? Is it mild annoyance on your part or full blown hysterics.... or are you in the DC boat yourself and starting to get a *tiny* soft spot for him yet?

Personally think this is fantastic (again) from the owners, backing the manager at a key time, shows their (and his) commitment to the cause. Let them worry about the financial side, I trust them implicitly.

More importantly, lets all sing our arses off at Wembley!!!!! Come on the mighty whites!!

I imagine the '5 year' nature of this deal is more symbolic than financial. There will be break clauses in for both parties. Neither Carol or Clarke are naive enough to think a 6.5 year managerial stint is common-place anymore. There's no chance Carol is tying herself to paying off the entirety of that contract should things go wrong.

I think it's more to do with providing potential stability for the club. It demonstrates the value that Carol/Flitters place on Clarke and Clarke places on having a secure and well-run environment. There's clearly a 5-year plan in place, now the pandemic is over and Smurthwaite is out of the picture, to get towards the Championship, alongside overhauling the academy and doing up Vale Park so it's a bit less 1970s. The first phase of Carol's ownership, of steadying the sinking ship, sorting out the footballing infrastructure, linking the club to the community, and attracting some younger fans, has been complete. Feels like Phase 2 is beginning.

It's a massive undertaking. I'm not confident that Clarke will still be manager in 5 years, but that's fine. Very few managers last that long. He may get bored of us, we may get bored of him. That's football, and normal.

This is a good show of the united approach that every level of the club has to the same goal. I feel like tomorrow, the Robbie concert, and this contract is a sign that we're ready to step into the next stage of things. I sincerely hope we do it tomorrow to give it a kick-start.

I am indifferent really. I can't help wondering what would have happened if we had kept Murray until the end of the season, would we have beaten Newport and got auto promotion? But it is all water under the bridge now. I don't expect Darrell will stay for 5 years but who knows.

Fantastic platform for stability and success... Yes, nothing is fixed in football, things may go wrong, exit clauses and all that, but the structure right now is as good as I can remember

Carol -> committed. Doing a brilliant job positively steering the club in all areas, football, community. I just love her.

DF -> committed to the club, sholdn't be going anywhere. Great ideas, recruitment so far has unearthed real quality that is above L2 but on an L2 budget. Not every signing is going to work, but his success rate so far is impressive. Doing a great job.

DC -> committed to the club. Passionate, players love him, positive, focussed, a real figurehead for the club.

Hopefully in the 5 years Phil Bowers and Darrell can work on their interviews... I feel for Phil sometimes.

You won't have to pay it up, at any point! Decision made by those who might have to, so that's their choice!

You say that, but as Smurfwaite found out when he was starved out, it is the fans who pay to keep a club going at the end of the day.

A five year plan to get us to the championship, its happening folks, hold on tight, the Vale are on the march again.

I honestly don’t think if we win on Saturday it will take five years. The momentum is with us and the club is way better than even the great season Page had.

Would have been interesting to see what happened if Murray had stayed on, also if we hadn't had the games called off due to Covid, the injuries to Conlon / Proctor / Wilson etc etc . We need someone to run a load of football manager sims!

If DC is still here in 5 years it means we must've done well in the intervening period. Lots could happen in that time though...

Feels like indifference is a step forward though 😁

We would of gone up automatically if he had stayed

We have been better since Clarke returned to the dug out not perfect against Swindon away but manager can’t control individual mistakes which didn’t help but Exeter away and Swindon at home were a tactical success

Very wise words… we know how hungry some are for instant success (not a dig and I’m not getting into that thoroughly dull “I want” debate again). Get behind the regime through good and bad and we will progress!

Stick Together, Stay Strong, Believe

They have given DC a 5 year deal because they see him as the man who will deliver us Championship football within those 5 years(even if we lose tomorrow) and being honest i wouldn't bet against that, would love to see him become our modern day Rudgie for the sake of those fans who weren't here to see those glory days of the late 80's and through the 90's
