Have to say I enjoyed using the Hamil Road end this evening, normally sit in the Bycars!
Far better facilities and I for one would like to see the switch made permanent…..

Ditto, maybe ask the players what they think?

The only thing i would say is that if we are in League 1 we really want to get the big away followings in for the big clubs like Derby, Sheffield Wednesday etc to get the revenue.  In League 1, realistically how many times are we going to fill the Hamill compared to how many revenue boosts from big away followings we would get.  Maybe make the Hamill the home end but consider a switch for the handful of massive away followings.

Agree with fuzzyvalefan, but in whatever league we’re in. Away fans generally buy more alcohol than home fans. If there’s a big away following in the Bycars, we get no money from alcohol sales. For a club our size it would be silly to turn down that extra revenue potential.

We were in our normal place at the back of the stand and was expecting less in there as I knew some would head for the Hamil.

In Fact it was as loud as I had heard it all season to the point that only once did we hear the Hamil.

Strangely although it looked fantastic the Hamil seemed louder when away teams have visited.

How good to see all Vale fans being positive for the whole 120 mins.

How many does the Bycars hold ? I'm sure provision could be made to sell beer in that end too. Am I right in thinking The Blue one sold the catering off to a 3rd party and Vale currently don't benefit from beer sales inside the ground ?

It depends how easy it is to park busses near the Bycars and chaperon away fans to the stadium in terms of policing. Having busses right behind the Hamil Road end must be easier for them.

But it definitely seemed to work better. Much better facilities, better acoustics (when my ears stop ringing, I'll know), and walking back down Hamil Road without a load helmets following the away team milling about looking for trouble was a novelty. Put some panels up so you can't see the pitch from the Bycars with a beer and all good to go

I think that's just because usually the Railway is quieter for longer, so you can hear them easier. I could frequently hear them from the front of the Paddock on halfway, and it sounded pretty good to me.

Agree with switching, we need to improve the Bycars facilities anyway, no reason we can't put better concessions in there, including alcohol sales, (although Vale fans themselves like the odd pint, so don't foresee a huge drop in matchday revenue in the Hamil End!).

Ca. 1,000 fewer away tickets in a handful of games could easily be offset by Valiants turning up in slightly higher numbers for every game due to the improved atmosphere and match-day experience.

I know we were otherwise engaged at the end but I saw no Swindon fans and didn't see one coach before or after. The Hamil might be a high visual away end for visiting fans and SHOULD be easier to police but as we see whenever we get a decent turnout Hamil road becomes a battlefield. With a bit more planning maybe the Bycars is worth an extended trial.

I’ve been in the Bycars every single year since it was redeveloped and I’d move to the Hamil quite happily simply for the better facilities but put your normal Bycars crowd in there and it’d be pretty empty.  Also it leaves the fans in the current half finished Lorne Street pretty isolated.  Nowadays the Bycars crowd sits more packed towards the Lorne Street so it’s a bit joined up so to speak.  It’d be interesting to hear what those sat in the Lorne Street thought of it last night.
