Match Thread: POS2 Port Vale v Swindon Town

Fosse69

Recommended Posts

Fifteen Swindon Town fans were accused of attacking the Bradford City team coach on October 23rd 2021.

Apart from the fact that obviously that this sort of behaviour shouldn't be allowed in the 21st century and that strangely I can't seem to find any articles from their Supporters Club about that particular incident, the fifteen fans that are accused were not charged until May 2022.

That's almost six months after the event and presumably because these things take time to do properly.

So, why... when they have seen the timescale for an event they will presumably know about, are they getting their knickers in a twist about no charges for an event that took place a month ago?

It's under investigation, let's now see what the authorities say.

Stuff went on that night which shouldn't have but the whole thing about their players being physically and verbally attacked has surely been exaggerated?  Garner's post match response was clearly an attempt to cover up the ineptitude of his team.  Their fans and, indeed, the club's staff, were far from blameless.

I can feel a Palace v Brighton style vendetta brewing......

I was talking to a Swindon fan before the first leg and he was telling me they had a big grudge against Gillingham. He didn’t go in to why but perhaps they didn’t waster their pitch or maybe it’s because the Swindon players got in to a scrap with their fans after Swindon lost.

Cocky from the top down, manager thought they were at Wembley, their players did and their fans did and it filtered from there. They were so bad for it they managed to pretty much do our team talk and paid the price, its just a shame we were not clinical in the second leg or we'd have walloped them 4-0 and would have been even sweeter, the fact our players pretty much ended up singing about it and tweeted images like Gibbo says it all. Classless club. Even some of their players were tweeting unacceptable tweets on final day, along with their "Star Man" calling us Pigs before a ball was kicked. (Thats ok though as doesn't suit the Swindon agenda).

Take Northampton, absolutely done over with some awful referee decisions in the second leg of their game... their manager comes out, credits Mansfield and wishes them the best in the final. Even the usual full of excuses, Clough was graceful after losing the final. Chalk and Cheese.

They seem totally oblivious to the fact they were in the press 3 or 4 times for incidents meanwhile against Exeter and Mansfield both our fans got on in the main and credited how classy each set was, shaking hands on the pitch at St James, and wishing Mansfield all the best after the final.

Their fans are literally on a Swindon youtube video chucking projectiles at our fans on the pitch! Lets make this clear a small handful of so called fans were out of order that night but there is no doubting a small section of theirs were equally at fault and regardless of who they support all should be caught and banned but I do think the supporters club now should step in and cut this witch hunt that seems massively bias towards the Swindon side and fails to deal with the actual issue that a small number of both side were unacceptable with their behaviour.

On the positive from a Swindon player point of view they can at least get their hands on the play off trophy at least... pop down the Vale shop after 6 tonight!

With the substantial amount of potential evidence available from Sky TV, CCTV, mobile phone coverage and eyewitness accounts from ‘neutral’ stewards and police officers actually on the pitch you’d imagine if there’s enough to support their claims then arrests might perhaps have already been made.  Not seen anything from the police regarding arrests yet or mugshots posted as per for the Exeter game, so either what is claimed to have happened didn’t or it’s just over exaggeration of more minor offences - using threatening behaviour rather than assault etc.

Swindon should be directing their gripes at the police not the Vale.  The club almost immediately after the game and have repeatedly since, said they don’t condone the type of behaviour seen and any Vale ‘supporters’ identified BY THE POLICE will be dealt with.  I’ve seen no such official statements from Swindon so we can only assume they do condone the behaviour of their own fans retaliatory or otherwise. Vale could easily claim, with video evidence readily available, that Swindon fans escalated the situation further by ripping out and throwing seats onto the pitch etc.  But we have not responded in that way, to our credit, and my view is that our club and associated groups have not, and should not have to, stoop so low as to respond to articles in the Swindon Advertiser in a tit for tat exchange on who did what and when.  Let them point fingers, divert attention from their own failings and wallow in their own self-importance then when the investigations are complete and the authorities issue their findings (if any), we can respond with a considered, professional and factually accurate statement accepting and committing to act on any findings …….. as we have done all along.
