Can’t see anything on wiki. What’s her injury record like?

Only really been successful in a two with Les Dennis in behind.

A bit limited then. Perhaps wouldn’t fit into our system.

Well so far on here it's been Fletcher and Cadden mentioned.. not sure on the first one but i have to be honest and say i would walk through fire to get the latter,a cracking wing back imo but one who was said to be targeted by a lot of clubs higher up last season,so not sure if that one has any legs in it,would love to be wrong on that one though

If there is any truth in the Cadden rumour he played on the left for FGR, would that mean we are looking to offload Hussey?

I would have loved for Gibbo to stay but the club has to be realistic. I don’t know what sort of money he was on for his last contract but I wouldn’t mind guessing his actual cost per game to the club was on a par with some of the higher paid players. And don’t forget, when we went on that amazing 8 wins 9 games run after Colchester he didn’t play in any of them. He was a very good player but the team managed well without him during that period.

I think your argument is flawed. You should be comparing it to the players that were brought in to play wing back that he was keeping out the side. I think you’d be very surprised what he was on. I have no reason to disbelieve the person that told me that he was on hundreds rather than the thousands of those comparable players (Benning and Hussey). Benning played just slightly more games, but in my eyes I think it’s fair to say both those players offered less to the side in terms of their contributions over the games they played. I also think you’ve got a very short memory with the amount of assists and goals he was involved in over the course of the season. I wouldn’t have thought that and the effect he had on the side was in doubt? Whilst he may not have been binned off as such, the very strong rumours swirling around from people within that our offer was so low it effectively ensured he was forced out no matter how much the manager may have wanted to keep him. Shame really, but the king is dead long live the king and hopefully we have someone lined up because we need backup/competition for Worrall on that side.

With Gibbo the objective measurement is that he has moved to a parallel club in League 1 and not upward. Aside from he is moving up with both clubs from League 2. So it's disappointing because he offered continuity and good team spirit and potential. But equally he is replaceable and it's not a crisis.

Unless he played a certain number of games… then both Gibbo and Port Vale would have benefitted. Leading to appropriate compensation.

Good business sense.

Gibbo didn’t want to take that risk which is fair enough. His Prerogative.

I think Gibbo faced stiff competition to get in the side at fullback or wingback. Plus he has been injury prone. So if he was offered a games played type of contract / reward system he should move on to a flat rate pay opportunity. That's for money but also because the manager has signalled where he sees the state of competition for places. Viz. Gibbo behind Cass and Worrall on the right and behind Benning and maybe Hussey on the left. In the centre that defence we played with at Wembley was good for that game but likely not a season. We took advantage of the pitch to show we had better ball players than Mansfield but took a risk on height at the back. Can't do that most weeks in League 1.

Spot on.

Any player nowadays will have a far more in-depth medical than was possible in the past.  The specialists these days can tell you about potential future injury likelyhood from the analysis that’s carried out.  The Gibbo’s, Wilson’s etc will have undergone rigorous tests rather than being told to do a few sprints up the touchline.

Off topic, but I’m sure I read somewhere, a Carol interview maybe, that we took a cryogenic chamber of some sort to Wembley.

Re the cryo-chamber:  it’s a pity we didn’t have it 25 years ago, we could be thawing out 4 or five of that team now and be pushing for promotion! 😜

Seriously, yes I saw that mentioned and I think DC also mentioned using pitch-side physio tables in the semi-final to use before extra time/penalties to freshen up players legs etc  - all part of starting to bring  the off-field capabilities of the club up to Championship standards.

I think that DC has tried to match up/ out think,(which has no guarantee for success) with most opponents. Height or pace? Pace or height its a debate. We do seem better when there is width, but they also know how to press on a smaller pitch. It is about balance,so we shall see what the league one squad has. If all else fails Jones will throw one in, hits Smith and Wilson will tap in every game @ 11 minutes and I will be rich.

Better than league 2, so onwards and upwards UTV
