The Smith rumour is rubbish, look at the guy's previous tips and see how many of them come off. Just making stuff up.

As for Gibbo, a fully fit Gibbo is worthy of being our top earner. A Gibbo who gives you 20 games a year isn't. We don't know which one we'd get so it would be a gamble. Vale have decided not to take that one whereas Bristol have. Hope it comes off for him.

its a tricky one this🤔, but lets say for example, Chris Hussey (who I really like as a player for us), he is a well established 1st division player - does he stand head and shoulders above any of our (last season) league 2 players?

also, we played numerous 1st division sides last year and were not disgraced by any.

on top of that, many league 2 promoted teams are not relegated the season after.

- so quality wise, is it going to be a big step up, I would say a not insurmountable step.

We often performed better against better opponents as they come out and play, leaving space to exploit.

I wouldn't be surprised if our home record is better, although 11 wins isn't bad.

I think the level will suit us better, although we may well have a few bad days to learn from.

The question is do you think Gibbo should of been our top earner at the club like he wanted. As much as I love the lad my answer is no.

I don’t believe for one minute that he went in there demanding to made the top earner.

Did you think Cass was the better defender?  Sorry, but from what I saw last season, Gibbo was better of the 2.  To add some balance to that, in fairness Cass is nowhere near as experienced as Gibbo, who must have played 3 or 4 times as many league games at a guess.  You’d say both players have scope to improve, more so in the case of Cass, so it’ll  be interesting to see how both their respective careers progress at League 1 level.

Agreed on Cass he isn’t a fullback or a wingback IMO. He should be RCB with Worrall in front or another RWB. Cass can cover there if needed but not a long term thing. Cass had a lot of defensive shortcomings last year and I think he’s being put on a pedestal over Gibbo is purely because he’s gone. But the comparison between the 2 just isn’t there. Totally different players. Also had Gibbo signed we would have been doing cartwheels not moaning about him. Just usual fan behaviour when a player leaves.

I do think that Smithy stuff is rubbish, but if its true and the club have decided to get rid of Smith and Gibbo, the process will have officially lost its mind.

That Smith rumour is most certainly false,i wouldn't trust that site one bit

I think you’re wrong. Across all competitions, just doubled checked it too in Wikipedia. 31 last season and 12 the season before. Fully fit mal Benning played 36 last season and Chris hussey got in 19. I’m as gutted as anyone that gibbo went but I’m not rose tinted enough to try and dumb down his impact last season just because he’s gone.  I’ll die on the hill that he was better than both those 2 who came in last season, he was mainly first choice over them and had more of an impact than both of them over the course of the season. 31 games this season vs 12 the season before to me indicates a player improving his injury record and going the right way over the previous season when he got the bad injury. We’ll never know now, well I suppose we will by what he does for Bristol next season, but we move on anyway.

I'm with you on Hussey, although i dont know how many games he played for Cheltenham. Benning i have to disagree he came here and wasnt fully fit and in a new position. Once he came back in the side in March he was lean fit and was the Benning we had all heard so much about. Anyway its water under the bridge we all have our own opinions and rightly so. Lets hope for some good signings and a good season. UTV

Spot on.

There's been some serious twisting, turning and desperate attempts at face-saving on here these last couple of days, and you can be certain that the very same people would have been creaming themselves if he had signed a new contract at Vale!

Am I right in thinking that Nicky Cadden still hasn't signed at FGR?

A very decent player.

Unofficial Vale seem to be hinting at this one judging from their latest tweet...

It would be some signing if we managed to pull it off!

I’d be amazed if we could land him. Would be a hell of a statement though. When seeing the Scottish gifs in the comments I thought it was Fletcher which to be honest I wouldn’t have been thrilled with. Not because he’s Stoke but he’s just too old and slow and not really what we need up top.
