Birchall on Gibbo leaving

Birchall loves a moan. Was grateful for his early days and his world Cup story but the man has always been a plank. Still bitter he got released to this day. Must have had the same education Tom Pope had

Surprised he doesn't have the photo with David Beckham as his profile photo...

Disappointed Birchy feels the need to air this in public, since sexman left the Burslem circus has quietened down and things that need to be said are done behind closed doors.
Although he’s not part of the actual payroll staff etc, he does/did games commentary for Radio Stoke so it’s disappointing for him to come out talk about the club in such a tone that lays fault at their door.

What we can take from this, apart from the fact he’s upset about his mate - that Cass has come in on a wedge compared to what we offered Gibbo?
Cass has come in from a Premiership academy and also has the potential to play more games.

but surely the point he makes is relevant , if Gibbo was offered half of what squad players are getting then there is something wrong (and I doubt he would make the statement unless he was pretty sure of the information )

Absolutely -  no qualms with our dealings. Big fan of Cass and his potential.

Just rather it wasn’t splashed publicly on an ex players social media. Feels a little 4 years ago.

Chris is known to be a massive gossip and pot stirrer. Pretends to have in with the club still which isn't the case. He's a vale fan when we're on the up but whenever it's something wrong or one his pals leaves (I.E pope) he then has a say or a little dig at the owners.

Don't get me wrong  he's entitled to have an opinion just like the rest of us.

I don't know the Gibbons deal and I don't think he really does unless James himself told him which is fair enough.

I'm just not a fan of the bloke and never take what he says seriously

Pretty much the same as what I’ve heard from a couple of people within about salaries. But I actually assumed that Birchall was on about someone like Hussey or Benning, but he does still have links to people within the club and I agree he wouldn’t come out with it if he knew it wasn’t true. It’s a sad fact of life in any profession that apprentices never get the same recognition by employers than those coming from elsewhere in terms of their salary. Probably taken for granted a bit.

Cass isn’t even a wing back for me so I never thought of him in comparison to Gibbo, who ironically is just coming back from the same ankle injury Gibbo suffered at the end of the season.

Personally I don’t buy the “money talks” line on the Gibbo decision.

If he is as amazing as we all think and his injuries have in fact cleared up then he would be off to the championship.

There were multiple rumours of him going to the championship in Jan last year and then he broke down at Leyton Orient.

I don’t think this is a case of us offering him a big deal and Bristol blowing it out of the water.

This is a story of us offering him something based on our view of his injuries (27 starts in 2 seasons) and Rovers willing to take a gamble.

I actually feel a bit sorry for Gibbo and wish him well… from Championship prospect I feel that Bristol are the only club that have been willing to take the risk. Let’s face it, the big boys in our league could blow them out of the water with a bid but they haven’t.

He is having to either drive 2 and a half hours each way to train or move away from the local area where he and his Mrs are super connected and tied in… he’s engaged to Conlons twin(?) sister.

Is she going to move to Bristol with him to reduce the commute? Who knows. If not he’s going to move down there on his own or face the commute.

This situation reads more to me like Gibbo is lucky that a team in league 1 were willing to offer him something that’s not dependent on appearances and that’s the best offer he could get.

We know Barton is willing to take those gambles… Their other signing (Rossiter) is described by Fleetwood fans as 2 things … 1) too good for league one and 2) made of glass

He managed only 10 games last year.

I love Gibbo… I genuinely wish him well and hope his injuries are behind him.

Have Bristol mugged us off by blasting our bid out of the water. No. Are they willing to take a risk that we weren’t. Yes.

The commute is bloody horrible.  Until this time last year I lived a few hundred yards from the Mem and on a Saturday it was doable but still a tough ask; mid-week it was an absolute pig.

Birchall should keep his thoughts private, Radio Stoke should consider their summarisers next season, we don't need any more ex players with agendas passing opinions.

If he goes on to play 90 games in 2 years then Brizzle still haven’t mugged us off, because taking the sensible option on every player means we’ll get far more right than wrong in the long run.

The key is he’s very much an ex player.  Why can’t Birchall put his opinion out there when seemingly everyone else can?  You don’t have to agree with what he says but he’s doing nothing wrong.

We’ve clearly had some discussions regarding his contract which, unfortunately in my view, haven’t been to Gibbo’s satisfaction.  Only time will tell if we’ve made the right choice.  Gibbo could play every game next season.  He could play non.  We could sign a better replacement.  We could struggle to find one.  We’ll see.

I think the contributors they have with past connections cannot be trusted to give balanced and consistent commentary and insight. They should hire more talents that build up their knowledge over time and don’t have agendas as you say.
