On a separate note I have seen references to the £50k we apparently paid for Hall. Really?? I cannot believe we paid that. Absolutely ridiculous money if that is true and we ought to be thoroughly ashamed of ourselves……because we have well and truly had the Harrogate chairman’s pants down there.

😍😍😍👍👍👍🤣🤣🤣

I saw it differently, I thought he managed it very well a) because of fitness as against Swindle and Mansfield he did understandably tire and b) Charsley’s energy in chasing down was needed at that point to stop the oppo’s trying to build any momentum. Irrespective, I think this pre-season is a big one for JT, he should be full of confidence after Wembley and I think that if he comes back fit then he’ll start next year.

Totally agree. James Wilson was repeatedly hauled off after 65 minutes by excellent man management skills earlier in the season.

Taylor was being managed the same way, building up and giving everything he could whether for 55 minutes or 70 minutes,  whatever the management saw fit.

One internet rumor and he's either not a very good player and good riddance or Clarke has never trusted him?!

Absolutely. What is it with Vale fans? Anyone can see that Jake is a very good player. When fit he is well worth a place in our Di vision 1 squad. Rumours can kill some players careers. We need to wait and see what our management team decide. In the meantime hopefully Jake will show all concerned that he is player we need for the future.

It is the nature of football nowadays with substitutes, more so with 5 subs. High press/tempo games require energy management as well as tactics. Gone are the days when a player with a broken arm would stand on the wing to keep the full back occupied.

I don't want the James Wilson from Northampton away opening day of the season.

If he's going to play like Wembley James Wilson will be OK though.

That was my point mate. He's been hampered by Injury throughout his career .

So DC knew by molly coddling him and wrapping in cotton wool eventually the true Wilson would emerge. Up to at least October he was subbed regularly as he was getting more and more minutes into his legs.

I'm all for this approach with Taylor too.

Gone are the days of bringing Montano on as sub after 6 weeks out only for him to be subbed himself within 5 minutes after breaking down again.

@darren1810 I thoroughly agree with you on the management of players. I'm not sure if it only happens at Vale but I do find it odd that some fans expect everyone to go from zero to a hundred when they enter the pitch.

  • We sign a loan player and he gets two days training with the squad - then there's complaints he isn't picked - it's because he won't be used to his colleagues to their runs etc.
  • A player comes back from injury (such as Wilson against Brentford) struggles a bit and he's labelled "lazy" rather than it being him adjusting to the pace
  • A player is playing through the pain (and probably horrible injections and all sorts) such as Worrall and Proctor and they are labelled as being "rubbish" during that time

It is always tge same with some fans. They start spitting viral at players. I remember some of the vile things thrown at Constantine. He left and we were down a year later.

One of the problems is some supporters "Demand" instant success not taking into account fitness, playing with an injury, being asked to play in an unfamiliar role, their personal circumstances( New baby crying all night) Unsettled in a new city, Mrs run off with the milkman, all kind of circumstances can affect a players performance and I don't know, but the Vale seem to have a handle on these situations Procter and Worrall have both mentioned how they have been looked after.

These days there are a lot of supporters who have not played much sport and little if any proper football. Years ago there were many leagues on Saturday and Sunday which gave people an insight into what players go through and more empathy.

Definitely agree with this.

I listed to a great interview with an ex pro (Cant remember who but he played for United under Alex Ferguson) and he said fans have no idea how hard it is to come back and get "Match fitness" which is less to do with physical fitness and more around reading the pace of the game, being sharp in decision making, and interestingly, getting your peripheral vision back up to the required levels.

Sir Alex hired a specialist to work on players peripheral vision when they were returning to fitness as its such an important part of the game.

Also interestingly, I also read somewhere that Black and Pink are the 2 best colours to be seen in peripheral vision and that's why a lot of teams go for a black kits these days.

Totally correct.  The lads I sit with have never kicked a ball in anger and they haven’t got a clue, although to be honest, despite me playing a lot of football over the years, they’ve all got more idea than me. 🙄

I become very selective in my visits to OVF.

I love constructive, open, non judgemental conversations, where people are curious and wanting to learn.

Once the naysayers get a grip, with their critical closed minds, I disappear.

Not worth the effort.
