Lets not forget we have loan options available from bigger clubs that might have players better than Taylor and equipped for League One football

I would think a few squad players will leave if DF and DC can replace them with better or ones with more potential(DF himself said players could still leave even if under contract)

IF he is leaving then that will be because we have a replacement lined thats for sure

It probably wont be him as i have no idea who our link ups are with apart from the obvious Newcastle but would we swap Taylor for lets say Azaz?

Should be worth more with a L1 season on his CV, contracted until 2024.

Seriously though despite his performances in the last couple of games and us knowing there is a talent there,once Conlon is fit he will drop down the pecking order here again,so take a fee and insert a sell on and it could be win win,lets face it we would be getting something for a player who isn't a first team regular now so it wont affect us massively

Depends how Taylor plays during Conlons absence. Like others have said, he's likely to be out until November/December time so Jake (or whoever DC decides to play that role) has 3 or 4 months to show that they deserve that place. Nobody, including Conlon, should be guaranteed a place. As good as Tom can be at times, I don't think he's so far ahead of the league to be a nailed on starter

Think Taylor/Sproson will have some agency in it. I'm not sure we can give the assurances of consistent minutes, even with Conlon out for a while longer. I still think we'll sign a more creative midfielder.

Taylor's at an age where he needs to be playing 40 games a season. Jordan Gabriel, another player Sproson touted to us from Forest but was rejected by Askey, is now at Blackpool and looks to be going to Burnley. Taylor/Sproson may look at that and think a club where he is guaranteed starting appearances all season is needed.

I wouldn't go that far, as good as we were in both games. Some of our performances between September and December were a different class. Carlisle away was also quality

Unless we have a quality, ball-playing L1 level CM already on their way in (which wouldn't surprise me), then I'd be a little concerned if we let Jake go. With Conlon out, for me he has to start as things stand, as we need that double pivot.

I'm assuming we'll bring in competition for Garrity as a priority (someone like Azaz could fit that mould perhaps?), as don't think Charsley is quite there at L1 level, leaving Pett/Walker and Conlon/Taylor as the pairs competing for each of the other spots?

Or if we bring in a driving DM in the Anthony Grant mould, does that change the pairs to new DM/Walker, Garrity/new AM, and then Conlon/Pett? If so, that would make a departure for Taylor more understandable for both parties, as much as I'd like to keep him.

Welcome back Lewis Cass. I can 100% see the logic in this signing and I think it significantly strengthens the defence and the defence's contribution to wingback and midfield. Smith tackling in the middle with Hall and Cass or equivalent on either side. Good on the ball, good off the ball.

Honestly I reckon that stays up comfortably. Add a bit of magic up top and at wing-back and...

 

I do agree with that being a strong side IF Wilson and Proctor manage to stay fit. It will be interesting to see Garrity in behind those front two with the step up but he has been class.

That back line is perfect for me now especially with Benning hitting form and showing us what he’s all about. We also have two for each position although I would prefer a stronger alternative for Martin at some stage.

My only concern and area I would like to see strengthened is the holding midfielder role. I like both Pett and Walker at League Two level. But there must be a reason why they’ve never particularly cut it at a higher level. Walker in particular has been signed for league one clubs numerous times and ended up not playing and dropping down. If we could bring in one absolutely top drawer holding midfielder I would be confident of a top half finish. Someone with a bit more urgency and skill going forward, and maybe a bit more physical in defence too.

Walker and Pett compete for the DM role. I'm happy with that and would leave it as it is. Both good players who offer something different to one another.

Garrity and Charsley compete for the 'grafter' role.

Conlon and Taylor compete for the creative role.

That's how I see it. I wouldn't mind Charsley being moved on, and if Taylor is sold, going for someone who offers more creativity than the rest.

Charsley would be the one midfielder I wouldn’t mind leaving. He’s a good grafter but he’s a league two player in my opinion
