Summer transfer targets/rumours, retained list etc

Just to lighten the mood a little I thought it was time to get the summer rumours page started as League One clubs are already announcing their retained lists

Bolton the first

Personally i would love to see us add Cass to the squad whatever league we are in along with adding some much needed pace to the team. I would also think our targets will vary dependant on the league we are in but plans will already be in place and approaches made.

Cass would be a great addition. His ability with the ball made him perfect for that RCB role.

If we go up wouldn’t mind us sounding out Villa to loan Finn Azaz. Thought he was fantastic yesterday and maybe if we can offer him L1 football they’d be tempted to let him come to us.

Good shout,we need to up our game a little where loans are concerned and it shows they can be found with the likes of Azaz and Barry at Swindon, also the striker swindon had earlier Simpson i think it was.

We do need some pace in the team though as we really lack that

Yep, Cass would be a great addition. Provides competition both for the back three and right wingback.

I would imagine a new number one goalie may well be near the top of the list too.

There's a number of key players out of contract soon too - Proctor, Smith and Worrall for instance.

re ; Aziz -Think he'll be playing championship or Sunderland/Sheff Wed etc rather than us

So as far as I can make it:

Under contract
Sam Robinson (2023)
Harry Charsley (unknown - not mentioned in press release)
Connor Hall (unknown - not mentioned in press release)
Chris Hussey (unknown - not mentioned in press release)
Lucas Covolan (2023)
James Wilson (2023)
Brad Walker (2023)
Dan Jones (2023)
Ben Garrity (2023)*
Aaron Martin (2023)*
Tom Pett (2023)
Alex Hurst (2023)
Jake Taylor (2024)
Tom Conlon (2024)

* not confirmed by the club but in the press releases during the summer they put the year the player was contracted to in the article image and those were the years used for those players so I presume they are correct

Out of contract
Aidan Stone (has option for another 12 months may be activated by number of games played but I am not sure)
Jamie Proctor
Mal Benning
David Amoo
David Worrall
James Gibbons
Nathan Smith

Loanees returning
Joel Cooper
Tomas Holy
Ryan Edmondson
Kiatt Harratt

Decent number one firstly. I’d keep smith but only if playing in a flat back 4 and proctor. Gibbo - he’s another one how long will he be out for during a season? For a young lad he doesn’t half get some injuries. The others can go for me. We need better in what will be a tough league again. The trouble is if Wilson and proctor miss large chunks again which is very likely the same thing will happen again where we may go a few months not winning. That’s a gamble. I also like the Oldham player kelior dunne. We need some energy and legs in midfield who can go past players. We lack a bit of pace for me in all areas.

I'd like to see Gibbo and Proctor signed up for next year the rest can go. I also expect Taylor Jones and Covalan will be told to find new clubs

I’m inclined to agree with this. I think there needs to be an honest conversation with Worrall. Love him as a player and what he’s done for us but with something like that hip injury and his general style of play I think his best days might be behind him and I really hate to say that. For Smith I’d only keep him as the middle centre back but then one of him or Martin will miss out and I just think money can be better spent elsewhere.

Keeper has to be right up there as number 1 priority. I think we're only a few key players short of a potentially title challenging side.

Hoping Proc will sign up for another 12 months & think we stand a better chance of Gibbo signing when you consider his injury record this season. I don't think there will be a queue for him, not paying crazy wages anyway.

New Keeper

Hall

Smith

Cass

Gibbo

New LWB

Conlon

Walker/Pett

Garrity/Charsley/Taylor

Proc

Wilson

I'd personally call it time on Wozza unless we give him 12 months & use him from the bench. I wouldn't be too disappointed to see Benning leave & I think Amoo is almost a ded cert to be moving on. Would wish them all well, in particular Wozza if he were to leave us. Might seem harsh & a big call but he doesn't suit our system, he simply isn't a wing back. I also think his hip issue has caught up with him.

A big summer ahead no matter which league we find ourselves in & looking at it positively, we are now a much more attractive proposition for players. Challenging up towards the top of the league & players treated really well by the club.

Unless we get promoted, I think we've seen the last of Smith and Gibbo. Amoo and Benning will be allowed to leave, I think Proctor will be offered (and sign) a longer contract and maybe a 1 year extension for Worral. Not sure about the last one and think he's more suited to a more attacking role.

Hurst will be paid off, Taylor transfer listed and Cooper blasted in to the face of the sun.
