Match Thread: Walsall v Port Vale

8 full days rest, a dressing down, recovery time for some walking wounded, and I’m sure we’ll give Newport a game. Sew up the playoffs and let the chips fall where they may. Chopping and changing ahead.

The Disappointment is obviously there for all Vale Fans. But I agree the season has been an Improvement on Recent times but the truth is the Club will have been in the Bottom Tier of English Football for the Longest Time in the Club’s History.
The Owner has done a Fabulous Job so far, the stadium is way too good for League 2 but the Management and the Players have just let the Supporters down these last 2 games.
Crosby has alluded to the fact he doesn’t look at the League Table, well it’s a pity he hadn’t, he may have approached the last 2 Games differently Tactics wise. Lets hope we can still manage to get promoted and be playing the likes of Derby, Ipswich and maybe Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday instead of Barrow, Stevenage and Crawley!

Come on Vale, Please !

Total lack of leadership on the pitch again.

Walker was a massive loss. Massive. Absolutely no bite in the middle now. We let them have free reign.

Crosby persisting with that dross tactical plan for so long without significant change until the panic triple sub after they scored was beyond comprehension.

That was pathetic vale. Bottlejobs of all bottlejobs.

I don’t know why Wilson was getting pelters on here. Had to drop deep time and time again to pick the ball up to try to do something with it as it certainly wasn’t getting played through by the disjointed, aimless, hoofball crap behind him.

Watch the highlights of Bristol Rovers pass and move play against the ‘highlights’ of that <ovf censored> today. Running forward 4 yards, turning round and passing it backwards. Tactically we looked like a clueless pub team. Don’t get me started on the goal kicks straight out of touch, Worrall held back at wingback, press-shy ballwatching and Benning not being able to look at the ball without it flying straight out of touch.

Having witnessed some fantastic performances of late, this game was a bitter disappointment. Do we miss Brad Walker so much? He has positivity and directness in his play, today we lacked quality, composure , aggression looked a spent force. The final ball and play in the final third was abysmal. Many had poor games, Proctor had his worst game in a Vale shirt. We have a strong side, we need to see it.

Disappointment aside, we need changes, we need aggression from the off against Newport. It's not over till it's over as they say. keep the faith. UTV

I find the ridicule of disappointed fans very harsh. ‘Bottom lips wobbling’ and ‘state of you’.

There has been someone on here tonight blaming Carol because she has Apparently “sold out to the detriment of the team”… wobble wobble.

Stupid statement + open forum = people pointing out how f*****g stupid it was.

If you find that harsh, that’s on you.

We’ve had an absolutely horrendous 20 years and, for the first time, we were given concrete hope a couple of weeks ago, only for it to fall apart following a couple of bottling performances in truly predictable Vale fashion.

The idea that Port Vale fans, treated to one top 6 finish in 30 years and more administrations than promotions, should stoically accept chucking away a 5 point gap over 4th with 4 games to go is ridiculous. If we fall in the playoffs, it’ll feel like yet another crushing kick in the teeth in the life of any Vale under the age of 30, as Stoke and Crewe fans cackle with glee. Kids who’ve only ever had the mickey taken out of them, trudging into school for another year of it.

Overreaction and disappointment is to be expected tonight. Everyone will calm down but the ‘everything is positive all the time forever’ (how I envy them) lads should be a tad more considerate of Vale fans who’ve had precious little to celebrate having a crumb of success dangled in front of them and them seemingly snatched away.

Fingers crossed for Newport. This week will hurt and I don’t want to consider the disappointment if we face Crawley and Stevenage away yet again and a postwar record length of stay in the 4th tier.

Nothing wrong with that summary. You see, its' the hope that kills you.

Just makes me wonder what the mindset of the Northampton players was today, compared to ours and what it will be for the next game?  They must have been chomping at the bit to go out there and destroy their opposition. Can't imagine what our approach was because it lacked absolutely everything required to win a football match. So the question is, are we not quite as good as we thought we were  this time last week, or have the squad and management simply not got the required resilience to cope with the pressure?  The next two games will provide the answers. I can't imagine the elation of every Vale fan if the final couple of games were to twist in our favour,  so that we end up in that third spot again. The disappointments of the last two games would make it all the sweeter, because as we all know,  The Vale never do anything the easy way. UTV

Based on the relegation battle last season, yes I would be happy.

Forward progress.

A good summer of recruitment, mainly in the goalkeeping department and forward line + a better injury record next season and there is no reason why we wouldn't be up there again.

Not  trying to sound selfish, but I can hardly stand another season in L2. However, if we don’t go up , I’ll be eagerly awaiting the fixtures as usual this summer. After 54 years , I’m not changing anything. UTV

I know I am probably showing my age but some of our fans behaviour really does get to me.  I was in the side stand and stewards said to sit in seat number ticket which is what you expect for a sell out game.  The number of our younger fans who decide to sit anywhere so they can be with their mates is just wrong.  They show no consideration for those people with kids or elderly with the constant standing up, standing in the aisles when they had a seat, if you had a child would not encourage you take to a Vale away game where we travel in big numbers.

I’m showing mine too, when I say that it all goes back to the parents.

In fairness the fans that stand sing and get behind the side I stood right at the back of the away end on the far left off the stand when the game kicked off about 2/300 in front and at side of me sat down and never made a murmur for most of the game they could of been watching a cricket match

Its ok for you to say that, you are in Australia, i presume. I am in Sandyford but then again its only words.

You are spot on :

My thoughts on this season all hinged on the great run Garrity had. Was it a fluke ? When he has been good he scored goals and looked a breath of fresh air in a poor , none creative midfield. When he has been poor , he has been awful and added to the other two midfielders, have offered us nothing at all in creativity. My assessment on Garitty is that he is average at best and needs to become a squad player.

Once the midfield offers very little we then depend on our two wide men. Worrall has been poor in his creative and attacking play, especially last few months, add to that he has had Smith behind him, who struggles to make a decent pass going forward and we offer very little down the right. Our left also struggles to offer threats too. Do we play Hussey who is a ' specialist ' in dead ball situations but is less mobile or Benning who does get forward but has probably had his worst season for a while.

Up front we have two decent strikers but only two and when we miss them we have no cover. Amoo is poor, Rodney was poor, two you lads have been a bonus and may have a decent career but so far its been hit and miss for them when asked to step up.

The back three have never looked solid even when we have not conceded too many goals. Martin is the main culprit for me. Very slow and does not look sharp enough either. Hall an excellent player. Smith a good center defender and no more. I have to say that we conceded goals when Jones and Cass were in there but they made up for it with their attacking, creative play from the back. This is the reason we scored goals in the first half of the season. They made the midfield push forward more

Goalie, you can still choose any one from three for me.

We have missed Conlon and Gibbons for sure but if they are not fit you cannot play them. Two games to go and then the play offs. Still in with a chance but a slim one for me. Need to change things around, dont think we will though. We look a very tired team after a tough season. I would go with :

Stone

Smith  Hall  Jones

Gibbons Garrity Pett Charsley Hussey

Proctor Wilson

If Gibbons not fit then we will stick with Worral / Edmondson

Then we need some start performances from several players

I can't believe that according to you our squad is so awful yet we are so close to promotion.

Garrity? First full season...11 goals from MF,probably the top scorer in the league without penalties.

Martin? Marmite...I actually like him.

Only two decent strikers? It's L2 for Pete's sake! You don't get worldbeaters playing at this level otherwise they wouldn't be at this level!

When I read posts like this I question the true intent of our so called fans.

We've lost 2 in 20, albeit this run has been maintained under trying circumstances which have not occurred at any other club this season.

This may fall on deaf ears so I'll spell it out

FOR THE LAST TWO GAMES,GET BEHIND THE TEAM

I'm signing off for the night now
