Sold out to Sky for next week. A win for Northampton and the pressure is on, pi s 5 5 poor from Carol for that for me. The 70k we will get for that will be dwarfed by the losses on the gate and I said at the time. We will be lucky to get 6k never mind 10k that people are dreaming of for Newport.

I have to say, I have never known it be an option for a club to turn down sky. We have a TV deal with the league. They can choose to show the matches they wish.

We have been 'not promotion material'  all season in my eyes, never a promotion team. We scraped wins against poor teams. However, I am well pleased that we did as I thought Play offs would be great so not upset, we dreamed, we dared. It has been mightily exciting at the right end of the table for a change which is great.

As much as I think we are poor, I think if we sign a decent keeper, and lose the fodder like Dan Jones, Benning, Taylor, we can free up some cash a quality player or two.

Its ok for you to say that, you are in Australia, i presume. I am in Sandyford but then again its only words.

You are spot on :

My thoughts on this season all hinged on the great run Garrity had. Was it a fluke ? When he has been good he scored goals and looked a breath of fresh air in a poor , none creative midfield. When he has been poor , he has been awful and added to the other two midfielders, have offered us nothing at all in creativity. My assessment on Garitty is that he is average at best and needs to become a squad player.

Once the midfield offers very little we then depend on our two wide men. Worrall has been poor in his creative and attacking play, especially last few months, add to that he has had Smith behind him, who struggles to make a decent pass going forward and we offer very little down the right. Our left also struggles to offer threats too. Do we play Hussey who is a ' specialist ' in dead ball situations but is less mobile or Benning who does get forward but has probably had his worst season for a while.

Up front we have two decent strikers but only two and when we miss them we have no cover. Amoo is poor, Rodney was poor, two you lads have been a bonus and may have a decent career but so far its been hit and miss for them when asked to step up.

The back three have never looked solid even when we have not conceded too many goals. Martin is the main culprit for me. Very slow and does not look sharp enough either. Hall an excellent player. Smith a good center defender and no more. I have to say that we conceded goals when Jones and Cass were in there but they made up for it with their attacking, creative play from the back. This is the reason we scored goals in the first half of the season. They made the midfield push forward more

Goalie, you can still choose any one from three for me.

We have missed Conlon and Gibbons for sure but if they are not fit you cannot play them. Two games to go and then the play offs. Still in with a chance but a slim one for me. Need to change things around, dont think we will though. We look a very tired team after a tough season. I would go with :

Stone

Smith  Hall  Jones

Gibbons Garrity Pett Charsley Hussey

Proctor Wilson

If Gibbons not fit then we will stick with Worral / Edmondson

Then we need some start performances from several players

The poor spell of January-February ensured we had to be near perfect from March onwards. As good as we’ve been, we’re seeing natural regression here - we weren’t going to win out, breaking the club record for consecutive victories. Defeats were coming and they’re coming at the worst time.

We were nicking poor wins against Oldham and Hartlepool and now are limping to losses. That’s football. We haven’t played well for a bit and it’s showing as the pressure builds. The signings in January didn’t help us enough and this decent run we’ve been on has been with 9/11 starters already here pre-January. The depth isn’t there. If the forwards don’t fire, it’s good night.

It’s all well and good saying the playoffs would have been taken at the start of the season, but that’s 8 months ago. We wouldn’t have taken the playoffs 2 weeks ago. This is a massive bottlejob. We’ll limp into the playoffs in poor form, dejected and disappointed, and a team bang in motion with jubilant fans will turn up licking their lips. The scenes at Barrow were a tad premature.

I’m gutted for the fans and Carol today. Rivals are wetting themselves at us and the players have crumbled in front of them. Did we even fight?

Monumental pressure next Monday on the TV and we simply have to step up. Turning up to Bristol Rovers away in the playoffs in poor form means a record 6th season in the 4th tier.

I think a few of our lads look scared to get on the ball and play positively. All too safe with lots of touches before backwards or sideways ball. Lacking a bit of positive movement.

Wilson I felt was the only one who tried to get on the ball and make something happen.

Too many if our lads couldn’t match  the physical nature of Walsall.

Disappointed is an understatement to loose both fixtures against a really poor Walsall team. They looked like a side in the bottom half of the table.

Hope we can achieve autos rather than believe.

Ok, I wlll. Thanks for being the 20th person to point out that it's out of Carol's hands. Oh no, wait a sec, you didn't. But the threat of telling me shut up makes crap my pants. So I best shut up as you say.

Just try and believe that your glass is possibly half full rather than it being continually half empty. I am totally brassed off, but that is football. I never expected to be contesting automatics, but once we were it is now depressing that we fall at the final hurdle.

No-one is to blame, not least the players, management or staff that have raised our status this season.

By the way, the season is not yet over…….

So did Bill Bratt, So did Paul Wildes, so did the silly fat wayne kerr.

To be fair we used to think Smurfwaite had too, what with his cheery Smurf fancy dress in away ends during the league 2 promotion season.

However Carol has certainly done more than any Vale owner I can remember and regardless of what happens this isn’t an improvement built on sand. She is in it for the long haul, not a misguided ego boost.

Excellent analysis in which I will add, in which some may say in hindsight--- Yeah I agree. I will add.... Dan Jones long throws: I think they are as useful as an average player lumping a long loop ball into the box. It is keeper fodder, at best you a flick on and hope it drops to feet. Unless it has a wicked trajectory like Rory Delap had where there is no reasoning when gravity would take effect then these throws are useless.

This brings me to Benning, his crosses from corners are just not even professional standard, he crapped himself today. 3 times in 60 seconds he put the ball out. Two players right there that we can lose to improve the squad.

As I said earlier, I get it, I didn't know the Sky thing was out of our hands. Apologies.

Total lack of pride today against a team with nothing to play for. Two more below par performances and we might not even make the play offs. One goal scored and 5 conceded in the last 2 games says that we have issues at both ends of the pitch.
