Match Thread: Port Vale v Bristol Rovers

One positive is that Bristol players all had an 8 out of 10 game, whereas we had 4 or 5 5/10 performances, yet still remained competitive. That was their absolute maximum in terms of level and it was just good enough to beat us on the day...it happens in a one off game. We know there is an extra level of performance but we must sort out the midfield. I agree that Hall might be a good shout in there...big, physical and is good on the ball.

So there's a GD difference between us of 5 in our favour - at the moment. But, if we win 2 / draw 1 our GD increases by a minimum of 2; win all 3 it would increase by a minimum of 3 (and GD wouldn't matter because of our points total!).

For the pessimists amongst you who seem to delight in pointing out that Vale could fail to get promotion - you're absolutely right...there IS that chance! So enjoy your moment of  doom and gloom - because there's a very good chance we will get promotion! Recent results suggest this is a blip, rather than a pattern? Maybe our team will come out and play like worldbeaters in their last games? None of us know - so why not look on the bright side, instead of the dark side?

I’m not being pessimistic merely pointing out a fact. If we can win another two games, I believe it will be enough as it forces the chasers to win all theirs. It’s in our own hands and with three games to go we had a good chance but this is Vale!

Watching the highlights back Christ the first 2 goals were soft

Spot on.  In the ground prior to kick off we said that we needed to keep mistakes to a minimum.  Have to say they capitalised on 2 big errors and the outcome swung in that.

Why did we have no ball boys behind the goal today? So much time wasting by their keeper.

They were given the day off along with the turnstile operators

As much as I admire Carol and Kevin, yesterday was a shambles

There was a fan tottering along the Bycars so bladdered, that they fell down the steps. How the hell did they let them in?

He has played in MF before he joined Harrogate.

We could still have nicked a draw but I think Brizzle think they've won the League!

Two wins will hopefully do it

Stay positive

Vale like to keep us on our toes.We will probably need something from our home game v Newport as it stands. It will add a few more on the gate ,as long as they open the turnstiles early enough.Minor inconvenience yesterday. On to Warsaw!!
I would expect the Stadium Manager to have a Plan on Carol's Desk by 9 this morning.

Struggling to take any positives from yesterday, biggest game this season so far and we were very poor. I thought Rovers won the game very easily, dominating midfield, playing by far the better football. Barton got the tactics right to win the game, fouling when needed, controlling the referee in the 2nd half while we resorted to long ball.
We looked dangerous when Wilson and Procter had the ball at their feet but these times were too few as the service to them was awful, Worrall having an off day and Benning was just shocking. The ref should have got a hold of the time wasting and booked the keeper after he gave him a warning but overall after the first 10 minutes I don’t think Rovers will have an easier 3 points away from home this season.

More than likely got sun stroke waiting for the turnstiles to open what a shambles that was.

This is the Barton way of playing. Dirtiest side I’ve ever seen. I’d keep taking on 15 he has a defo 2nd booking in him. Vale must score next. Jake I’d too light for this type of match.

I agree they were very physical side and we really missed Walker in there yesterday, this wasn't a game for Taylor sadly but we were so short of midfield options BUT they are also one of the best sides i have seen football wise and very quick on the break,we move on as they say,its still very much in our own hands, win all 3(tough ask i know) and we go up

I will add though i wouldn't to play Bristol in the play offs if it comes to that
