Remember us winning 1 nil Mark Grew played a blinder, the legend  JJ, (this time he decided to shoot rather than beat his man ten times) scored our goal 91/92

Grew did save us that day, I went with Leicester fans. JJ scored in the first few minutes, then Leicester seemed to be attacking  non-stop, it was embarrassing but enjoyable.

I lived in Leicester at that time but got in a bit late and missed the goal.  Ran home afterwards to watch on Central News and missed that too.

1 of the few highlights that season, we finished bottom.

Anyone who appreciates the legend that is Steve Guppy is a friend of ours.

The best left foot this country has produced.

Steve Guppy what a left foot! Criminal that he didn't get more chances with England, if I remember rightly there was a shortage of English left footers at that time too.

Fair Play and I hope your enjoy the day, where in Leicestershire are you from? I'm Leicestershire born and bred!

We are from Countesthorpe. Harvey Barnes grew up just around the corner.

Top ground and stadium, though not a fan of those annoying clappers !!

Don't get me started on the clappers, they had their use the season we were fighting relegation, but now my matchday ritual involves taking it off my seat and putting it straight on the floor. 😆 Hope you enjoyed your visit, if anyone does plan to visit let me know. The stadium will be far more unique when the new east stand is built.

Please let us know how you find your first visit to Vale Park.

I will do. Tickets arrived yesterday and we're looking forward to it.

Don’t wish to put a downer on things and I hope we play good free flowing football but if it’s like the last 6 games you’ll be asleep before half time

If it's anything like the away game though he won't be disappointed, unlike us.

Hi Vale fans,

Hope you don't mind me posting, I am looking for some advice for when we visit later this month.

Firstly a bit of background on why we are visiting, my teenage son and I are season ticket holders at a PL club, and back when the PL were arguing over how much money they were willing to send down to support football league clubs during the pandemic, my son made the suggestion that we could make our own contribution to clubs by visiting FL grounds as a neutral whenever we weren't at our club. We know that buying a ticket, programme, and food etc is only a small contribution in the grand scheme of things but I admire his attitude towards the situation, and the chance show him new grounds and watch some "proper" football is something I am definitely looking forward to.

Anyway, this weekend we've decided that Port Vale vs Sutton will be our first game, we definitely don't just want to turn up and leave on these visits, we want to soak up the traditional home fan atmosphere of every place we visit, so I am asking the fans if you could please share the best places for pre/post game drinks, food and anything else that we could see/do that helps us get involved with the home fan atmosphere.

Thanks in advance and we look forward to visiting on the 26th.

Just read this and have to say what a refreshing post.

Can’t really add anything above what’s already been said.  Bulls Head for beers (Plum Porter, Grand Reserve if available),  Hamil Oatcakes for a bite to eat (bacon, cheese, mushroom).  Fanzone before kickoff.  Don’t enter the ground early, no point.  If driving, be very careful where you park.  Expect a decent atmosphere if we’re doing well between now and then, otherwise it could be flat.  Hope you enjoy your day.  UTV.

So how was your visit? At least you got some goals and a home win. Did you try any oatcakes or visit any pubs?

I saw Steve Guppy's only game for England at the Stadium of Light against Belgium - he took the corner from which Shearer scored!

I've sent you a private message.  I wonder if you would mind replying.  Thanks

Hi All,

Finally made it back to Leicester, trains were a bit of a pain.

We have thoroughly enjoyed the day, we had kept tabs on your results recently and seen you had hit a bit of form... it showed today, other than one off the post you guys outplayed Sutton and the second goal a cracker.

The stadium for me was a throwback to the good old Filbert Street days - I loved it, we were suprised by the atmosphere you guys create - would've have given a couple of the soulless bowls in the PL a run for their money today!! I had to laugh when the lad looked surprised to see a person at the turnstiles instead of a machine... just a small hint that the young generation have missed out 😆.

We tried out 3 local pubs all with great atmosphere with both home and a few away fans, the fan zone, got a scarf from the club shop and yes managed to get oatcakes 👌👌 bacon and cheese for me!!

The lad is buzzing just knowing he played a small part in contributing to your club, Thank you @Jacko51for including us in your article. Thank you all on here for your help, we wish you luck for the rest of the season and we'll keep eye on your results. Never stop believing!!

We have decided to continue this venture by visiting the opponents of the teams each time, so we are off to Sutton next. We'll always remember where we started though.

Great to see you had such a good day.  How did you rate the ref?

Bulls Head, only pub in Burslem that welcomes all fans. Great choice of real ales, sells oatcakes and burgers and only 5/10 mins walk from the ground. However lots of other good real ale pubs in the town centre.

Bob the landlord can be very miserable though.

Glad you had a great day out and got to sample the mega bacon and cheese oatcakes.  Be interesting to see what you think of the other Div 2 clubs to see if they match the Vale Park atmosphere and match day experience.

So pleased you had a good day - it was a great day for us. Even if you don't come back again, spread the word we're happy to meet neutrals? Great choice of oatcakes - they're marginally my favourites, too! I remember Leicester playing a friendly at Vale Park - I think Rudgie insisted it was part of the deal for Guppy? Don't remember the result, but Martin O'Neill brought a decent side over.

I wish you well on your future journeys - it's a great trip you've started and there will be ups and downs...but that's the same with supporting one team!
