Rip Shane Warne

Sad news. It was an absolute privilege to watch him operate, even if most times i disliked it as he was generally ripping through our batting lineup.

He brought spin bowling to a new level. No more a containment option, he was attacking. Always challenging often unplayable. He also introduced several new deliveries to his formidable arsenal as he went along.

Best spin bowler ever.

I think Gatting still puzzles over this delivery...

One of those occasions where something stops you completely in your tracks. Given his impact on the game I’d even go so far as to say probably the greatest cricketer of all time, certainly bowler. Was in Melbourne when he took his 700th wicket on Boxing Day, even as an England fan just had to applaud him. Desperately sad news RIP.

Horrible news. To think only 12 hours ago he posted a message RE the death of Rod Marsh.

Pretty gutted by this. Shane was one of the reasons I got into cricket. Easily without doubt the best bowler I’ve ever seen play live. Just amazing what he could do no matter the opposition, the pitch, the ball ect. Seemed a class bloke as well. R.I.P legend

Utterly gobsmacked by this news. When I saw the headline pop-up I thought they'd messed up the wording and it was supposed to be something like 'Rod Marsh dies. Shane Warne pays tribute.'

He infuriated me when ripping through our batting time after time after time for so long, but I loved his punditry and commentating on Sky. He always made the coverage so much better, and it was great to hear the insight of a true genius.

RIP Legend

Awful news, could not believe it when I heard this earlier.  The first Ashes Series I remember watching was 93 and that ball to Gatting and ever since got hooked on the game.  There may well be players who have better bowling averages but quite simply the greatest bowler ever of his generation and in the 30 years I have watched the game.  A great personality, a lot of Australian cricketers I could never take to but Warne was so dfferent and equally as good commentating as well.  That 2005 series which he was part of will be forever remembered and a great sportsman.

A friend of mine from when I lived in Australia moved to the Uk to do the customary few years at HQ.

His Mrs was a Nanny and Au Pair and through a series of lucky turns became known around the top top top end of rich folk in london (the story of a CEO of one of the worlds biggest banks taking them BOTH to the Caribbean for 3 weeks to do 2 hours of nannying a day and insisting they eat lobster and drink all day with the family is a cracker)

Anyway, just before they left the Uk they got a gig that was top secret and only after it was finished did we find out it was for Warney and Liz Hurley.

They said that Warne was an absolute legend and a really top bloke who treated them like part of the family… in their line of work you meet lots of arseholes, some really nice people but very few genuine decent folk.

RIP Warney

Not many Aussies have been so revered by the English. Almost like he was one of us. A massive character with still so much to offer. Speaks volumes just reading the comments and tributes. RIP Warney.  Nice one Shane(Shyne)

A terrible shock to hear of Shane Warner’s passing today. What a force of nature he was. He dashed my hopes all those summers of Ashes victory. He was just simply too good. Then in 2005 when we were finally in the ascendancy he battled to the very last showing what greatness really is. Rest in peace Shane.
