Match Thread: Colchester United v Port Vale

We beat them at our place by pressing and closing them down quickly! Maybe more of the same. I hope we don't just turn up thinking its three points. We need to be at them and all eleven players at 8 out of ten. The points are there for the taking but our attitude needs to be 100% come on you whites!

A lot of roundabout posts as to why Holy isn't massively rated yet. I'd argue it's because he isn't doing particularly well. I think most criticism has been overstated but he's also done very little to impress. He's just sort of there. I can't recall recall anything overly impressive - which is a trait all three of our goalkeepers share this season.

We started 3-4-3 against them too.

Pretty simple for me RE Holy. He’s kept clean sheets, yes, but that is 100% down to our set up and defensive work. When he has been called into action he hasn’t been very good. It’s alright saying the goal against Harrogate wasn’t his fault, maybe no. But I’d be wanting my keeper to do better than that. Kicks the ball to their keeper more than our own players, really poor shot stopper and drops it half the time in the air. Not to mention he’s really dodgy with the ball at his feet. I can’t actually recall a proper save from him?
For me, Stone should play. He did nothing wrong in his few games and made no clangers like Covalon. Not a fan of him either but Holy could have met a similar date with his dallying on the ball. Think out recruitment in nets needs a massive improvement. Back to the Michael brown days.

My concern about Holy is that he has moments of madness in him. On Tuesday he came charging out of his area and failed to clear the ball. Fortunately they didn’t score. He’s done it a couple of times in other games. He’s been lucky in that respect. I also think he was a bit arthritic the way he went down for Rochdale’s equaliser. Basically, I don’t think he’s an improvement on what we had. They are all much of a muchness.

Also had one that he miscontrolled of his thigh that almaost created a chance for them. (Unless that's the same incident)

Always a good one for me this as I live very near the ground. Il have a load of Col Utd mates looking for bragging rights.

Vale should, on paper win this by 2 or 3 just based on how inept and slow Colchester are but that said they are fighting for their lives so il take a scrappy 1 0.

Pitch will be heavy as its been raining all day and is due to continue tomorrow.

Hope we are bringing a good few hundred to cheer on the Vale.

Come on Vale SVA

I think the thing with holy is niether the goal at tranmere or at Harrogate were his fault directly however i would be expect a competent goalkeeper to save one out of the two, i think teams are told to shoot low and hard straight at him because its a big frame to have to get down too the ball

To be honest holy is great when crosses have come in, he just grabs the ball no fuss at all which can't be said for our other keepers.

Yes he has a mad rush of blood now and again but he is young and learning,  we could do a lot worse, please support our young lads they need it.

Played: 8  Goals for: 10   Goals against: 5   Won: 3  Dr: 5   L: 0 including games against the top 3 (at the time). seems a pretty decent record?

I'm from the Goalkeepers Union (many, many years ago) and I'm not a Holy fan; for me such a big imposing unit should be controlling the box more, bossing the defense more and coming for more crosses. And he doesn't.

Yes, Lucas lost his head a couple of times. One would hope that, after the utter bollocking that he must have got from DC, he'd now know where he stands and shouldn't be such a liability in future. However, for me he dominates the box really well, commands his defence, comes and claims the ball high and early, and is a country mile the best shot stopper of the three.

He'd be the first name on the team sheet for me.

Hall is a good prospect for the future. As many have said I'd stick him out on loan in a side struggling in the lower leagues for a spell where he will be in the muck and bullets and will really hone his craft.

Lucas could help us gain promotion. It's as simple as that for me.

Not against Holy, in fact I think he’s a good keeper.

but to say he’s young and learning, he’s 30 years old.

I’m quite happy for Tomas to be unimpressive with that record.

That’s because our defence has been excellent. How many actual saves can you recall from Holy?

Big game today I think on recent away displays on what I have seen especially the Rochdale game we deserved the three points but wasn't to be .

Just gotta keep being as positive as going forwards then the rewards will come last two away Wilsons had a hard luck story today let's hope its a happy ending as that shot what hit the bar is what we want see but obviously not hitting the bar hitting the net

Cooper seems to me on what I have seen so far very positive a goal for him today or soon for me .

Lets put firstly a good performance in if we do we have every chance of the 3 points .

Let's hope thats the case as a draw again well we are away so that's not a bad result but last two away we have looked to me like we are capable of so much more .

Safe travels to away following cannot fault you at all whether there's 250 or whatever the following will be well done all .
