No WMD found,

It is not the country that is the problem, it is having a monster in charge.

A no-fly zone has to be patrolled otherwise ineffective, and could lead to aerial clashes which could lead to war or it would be a deterrent. Up to now no NATO member is willing to risk it.

We are not the world police, defence is our purpose. Illegal invasions have been carried out in the past under various pretexts,

My point exactly.

We went to war with a supposed nuclear power in Iraq

We interfered in Syria because we were worried Asad was going to commit genocide.

But we don't want to create a no fly zone in Ukraine because it would be a declaration of war against the Russians.

I know. We are going around in circles here. My original question hasn't been answered.

NATO has a policy of the defence of its members territory,  not until any is invaded  will it act directly,  supplying defence materials to Ukraine is within its remit. The invasion of Baltic states would require action.

Was Syria part of NATO? Not sure of the point here....
No, NATO is the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. The US, Canada, and Western European countries originally. Some Eastern European countries joined after 89 when the Cold War ended. The only military action within NATO has been internal in the Balkans. Syria as with all the MEast wars are outside NATO.

Syria or Iraq are not a nuclear power, if we go in to Ukraine it almost definitely end up in a world war with the potential of loopy Putin letting off Nukes. The only people who can stop Putin are his own people and we need to get other countries like China to have steeper sanctions then the people of Russia will turn on Putin.
