I'll blow my own trumpet here, think it was me and V593 who both predicted Walker would play a big part in the second half of the season.  Granted I didn't think it would be in defence !!

More than adequate there and because Smith is purely a defender and in the main treats the ball like a hot potato then Walker is proving a decent partner as opposed to Martin,  Martin was a touch unlucky to fall ill recently and lose his place but as with Smith isn't great on the ball.

Walker worryingly is always getting a yellow though and had 88 minutes today to see out .

Nothing much to say about the game apart from 2-0 is all that matters.

Frustrating to see us ponderous, sluggish and going backwards at times. But booing , deary me .

The players are doing fantastic given the terrible circumstances and close knit club we have become.  They wouldn't be human if they weren't affected.

I think we have to give leeway for that.

I'll be at Harrogate and Colchester hoping for a minimum of 4 before we prepare for the invasion of Crawley fans the week after .

Well done boys, was bored and cold but so what,  you did the business.

I never boo but can understand it if we are going backwards when losing and chasing a game but to boo when we pass it back at 2-0 up and needing the 3 points was downright pathetic imo especially in the current circumstances and if some on here were ones to boo at 2-0 i would love to just know why you felt the need to?

I was in the railway stand near to hamil end with the 74 Stevenage fans .( I counted 53 so 21 must of stayed in the concourse area ) and I didn’t here any booing a few moan and groan’s

Whatever his injury record, we should be making every effort to get Gibbons to commit to another contract. He effectively won the game after 13 minutes for us yesterday. He's assisted three of our last four goals, despite playing less than half of the minutes in that timeframe.

He's a future captain and a unique player - I don't know where you sign another Gibbo from. I think he's our most important player by a significant margin, on his weak foot in a position he's never played before.

Priority number 1 for Flitcroft.

If he was less injury prone he’d be inundated with offers. Surely he’ll be more likely to resign with a team that’s nursed him through it all. How’d you do it without the wage structure being wobbled? Hopefully other teams will be put off.

Gibbo will rightly make the best choice for himself and his career. We nursed him his injuries not out of altruism, but because it benefitted us to have a good player available, and he owes us nothing as a result.

We need to make sure our offer is the best offer for him. I'd break the wage structure in a heartbeat if it meant retaining an excellent young player who resonates excellently with the fanbase. He's a long-term foundational piece who would be part of any success we want to have.

Plenty around me in the paddock every time it went backwards

Nursing him through injuries means nothing,if he hadn't picked up his last injury then there is no doubt in my mind that he would of left in January, there was and is plenty of interest there.

My thoughts are are if we go up then i think he would stay and have a crack with us because of his age he can afford to do that for a season,as said above he will do whatever he feels is best for him and his career and i wont blame him

I tend to agree about being nursed through injuries not coming into it, it’s  part and parcel of football. As much as I wouldn't want our best players to go, I think that at our level of football players should take the chance if they get the opportunity to move to a higher level. I wouldn’t begrudge them that at all. What interest is there outside of the Twitter rumours we saw about sheff utd?

Entertaining football doesn't always produce results - look at Leeds.  Winning football is what  pleases fans.

Remembering Alan Durban, I see Gandeys's circus is coming to Trentham if anyone is desperate for entertainment!

Leeds are a suicide squad. As were Norwich before Smith. You can't stand toe to toe with better teams and I think Leeds will entertain their fans by going down. Norwich already stern up. Leeds aren't prepared to man the buckets.

Entertaining football gets people in the ground .

Over 5000 Vale home support most games so people generally must be enjoying what they are seeing bar Walsall at home and Northampton (games I have attended wasn't there v Hartlepool or yesterday or Scunthorpe)I feel we are not too bad a side to watch .

We will get better I saw on a stream yesterday's performance last hr and it generally was not very good but having hear AC post match I'm not surprised the performance level was not high after initial first 20 if Garrities playing with a injury etc ,Gibbons and Proctor not yet fully match fit so there's 3 players our the 11 not at full tilt so that makes the result even more pleasing.

I m not sure your first statement is entirely true although I agree entertaining football helps.... to me a successful team will pull in more fans than an entertaining team... a successful team will have more opportunities to play "big" top of the table table games with larger gates where the outcome is important to the final status of the teams involved than merely entertaining teams where their opportunities of big games and bigger gates  are limited. By definition winning teams will move up the leagues and have the chance of playing larger clubs with larger support again creating opportunities for big games and larger gates.

If Vale had lost 2.3 to Stevenage and lose 3-4 to Harrogate followed by a thrilling 4-4 draw at Colchester resulting in us dropping into more of a mid table position than play off challengers would we get a larger crowd for the Crawley home game than the 2-0 win over Stevenage and hypothetical 1-0 victories over Harrogate and Colchester would get us?

I suspect winning the games will attract larger crowds than entertaining losses. Quite often at our level entertaining and winning games dont go hand in hand. We arent Liverpool or Man City. I think currently we have made a decision to be hard to beat and rely upon some flashes of good play (our second goal against stevenage was a marvelous move) to turn draws into wins.

Perhaps there will be a time to become more expansive but at the moment I feel we are in the pack jostling for the best position on the final bend.

It got them promoted to the premiership in the first place though and a 9th place finish last season. Injuries and a tiny squad are the reason Leeds are struggling they’ve barely been able to name a side for months.

Not saying it’s the way to go as they should have changed it up months ago but entertaining football can and does have just as much success as defensive football

Agreed.  We’d all love to turn up and steam roller teams but it’s not that easy, trying to find the balance between playing entertaining, attacking football and keeping clean sheets.  With cancelled games players out/returning from injury, the turnover in the January window, plus currently playing on heavier pitches, I’m inclined to cut the team some slack regarding playing free flowing football.  If we have to grind out results to stay in touch then fair enough.  In fact barring a couple of draws from winning positions that’ve hurt us recently, v FGR and Rochdale, we’d have been very handily placed.
