It's less about passing and more about mobility.
Holy doesn't like coming off his line. Holy has a cannon for a leg but if we want to press high, your keeper needs to be comfortable coming a long way out of his goal to sweep up, as there will be oceans of space between the back three and the goalkeeper.
Holy is probably a good goalkeeper but he's 6"8 and not very mobile. It would be a disaster to ask him to patrol the final third when our back three pushes up.
Lucas was signed, I think, for this exact reason - he would facilitate a high-pressing game which required a high defensive line, allowing us to impose ourselves on the opposition. His flaws with the bread and butter are undisputed - I can barely remember him making anything more than a 'good' save.
As people have said, it's a futile discussion, as Lucas has been ostracised (not without justification) and Holy has been signed to be the main man.
Wasnt it mentioned on the Ale and Vale pod that Lucas was 5th choice last summer?

I thought I'd have a look to see how many points 3rd place have gone up with...for 2 of the last 3 seasons 79 pts has got automatic promotion, and the 3rd season fewer than 70 has been enough. We currently have 49 with 15 games to go...if we average the 2 points/game we'll end with 79! Interesting!

Build up too slow, everything we do is in front of opposition. Pett slows us down at every opportunity. 3 up top looks attacking on paper but we just end up with all 3 playing with their backs to goal. Play 1 off proctor and put another body in midfield. We're hard to beat but need to vastly improve going forwards if we're going to go up via playoffs.

We won 2-zip

Wilson appears to be this month's scapegoat...despite the fact that in early season, he wasn't hitting many goals but most people seemed to recognise his importance to our play - how quickly they choose to forget!...we even had a fans' poll on was he an asset to our team, FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it the same Wilson who's trickery and defence splitting cut back led to the Gibbo cross at Tranmere ?

Sadly at Vale it's a trait to have a go at people.

Yes, this line of argument is very credible. The only response to it is something like our defence has improved and we are getting better results because of it. But too many draws in that because we are ineffective going forward. We are ineffective going forward because our defence has improved by sitting deeper? And because Holy is in eyeline when the opposition want to cross. The further problems that have arisen - without Conlon - are very poor ball retention and lack creativity in the opposition half. So to be fair to everyone this isn't easy and it looks like management have decided to be solid and accept being quite poor going forward. We do have strikers who are good at this level. So Holy fits this new model of playing! However, the run has not garnished enough points and more wins are needed. So a tweak is needed.

But we won't beat teams around us playing like that and it's not unreasonable for paying fans to want to be entertained.

Yes, I think that as well. We have to get through the next few games and get Conlon back. The current approach is marginal as to whether we can reach 7th. It isn't entertaining and attendances will fall off a cliff if the team falls off promotion viability.
