Match Thread: Rochdale v Port Vale

Revenge for a home defeat and points towards promotion must be our ambition at Spotland.  No quick return to L1 for Rochdale, being draw specialists 13 out of 29 games does not help their case. Only 2 home defeats FGR and Oldham. Last home win in December was a 3-0 defeat of Newport, since then draws, with away defeats by Tranmere and FGR, so a solid team. The availability of Gibbons and Proctor must improve our options and chances of a win, go for it Vale, graft and skill.

Big game Tuesday as they all are probably as I didn't watch yesterday need to work on our passing and creating chances as at present we are not creating much at all mind you do not suppose we will if ball played hurriedly in the air too often need to calm down and start to pass the ball crisply and properly on the floor so with that in mind here is my team .

       Holy

Smith Walker Hall

Gibbons               Hussey

     Charsley Pett Garrity

     Amoo Proctor .

Out go Worrall and Wilson who's performance levels have dipped ,Wilson especially who's not really getting involved in the games at present skill and excellence there but not there gamely just when feels like it,I'm getting watching his body language  so I'm going go with Amoo who is playing well last few games he as being introduced .

Was hoping Cooper would make a difference yesterday but according to folks on Wonder of Vale Facebook page he had a poor game .

Think time give Charsley a game think he and Garrity can take it in turns arriving late in box to score .

I'd be tempted play Jones aswell in back 3 there goal yesterday well how did our right side defender leave the lad who scored that much room it was very poor I couldn't understand how he got that much out of position .

So a few tweaks and hopefully we will play a lot better than yesterday

I want 3412 for this, given how well we played with it against Carlisle, with Wilson in the hole, Walker spraying it out from the back, and Pett and Garrity in the engine room. Proctor and Harratt up top. Gibbons in for Worrall. Jobs a good un, 4.0 Vale

In complete agreement on that. Thankfully we no longer have to deal with Beesley so lets set about them similar to how we did against Carlisle. Think Worrall deserves a rest as well. Going to be a very heavy workload for our wingbacks in the coming weeks so lets protect them as best we can. Same goes for Hussey on the other side and make use of Dan Jones or Mal Benning at times to keep him fresh.

Suspect this one might be too soon but wonder if we could get a Tom Conlon sighting on the bench also?

Never thought I'd utter these words. Worrall needs a rest. He's been way off his game lately ( covid after effects? ) . The energy and drive Gibbo provided yesterday was chalk and cheese .

Still a fantastic player but for me at this immediate moment he's not a starter .

I think 4-3-3 would be fine if we feel that's the best matchup for that specific game, I think the issue with Askey was it was literally his only gameplan regardless. It seems an age since that home game with Rochdale which still baffles me we lost that given we had enough chances to win it 5 times over. Can't quite remember how they line up but if they are inclined to say a 4-4-2 then I would definitely be ditching 3-5-2 as I am not too keen on the way our wide players can get doubled up on when that happens.

Couldn't agree more, for some reason Worrall does have these periods where he becomes less productive, I mentioned this recently on the thread concerning Mal Benning. When Worrall is on top of his game he is more than happy to go on the outside of his opponent and deliver killer balls into the box. What he tends to do on his off spells is cut in towards the centre of the park and ultimately pass the ball sideways or backwards, on occasions this breaks momentum and frustrates the crowd. I think a little rest is all that's required, lets face it, he always gives 100% and I love what he has done for Vale.  I think he needs managing to get the best out of him, hopefully with Gibbons' return to fitness maybe he could be rested a little.

Into these and suchlike. 5 consecutive against bottom half. Need 10-12 points. Will set us up for a season-defining 4 games after that.

Sexy line up 😁 some goals in there

I’d be tempted to play Charsley instead of Harratt then have Proctor and Wilson together up top like the good old days. Gibbo in if he’s fit, but it’s always a tender hooks ting.

Vale haven't won away at Rochdale since we beat them in the ldv trophy in 2001. We haven't beat them away in the league since 1984. We need win this but got a feeling it will be another draw 1 1 or 2 2.

But they are <ovf censored> so we have that in our favour.
