Askey must have a wry smile on his face after DC criticised his unacceptable injury record.

The difference is that Clarke can’t pick his best team because of injuries. Askey couldn’t pick his best team because half of them were pants.

Agreed Jacko we have a better team, same level of injuries though which was the point I was making.

I agree ,  vale do have a better team now . But the injuries just keep  coming thick and fast .

Inaki Williams has played the last 220 consecutive games as a forward in La Liga for Athletic Bilbao. He has not missed a game in six and a half years. Presumably this would be reflected in his transfer fee should he be sold and also in his wages. We brought in two excellent forwards last summer who have both played at a higher standard than our current level and at times both of them have shown that. Presumably the only reason we could compete for their services was that both have a long history of injuries so the wages they could command reflected this bringing them within our budget.

We gambled. We shall have to wait until the end of the season to see if we have won or lost.

I posted at the start of the season that the most important player for us this season would be Rodney. Important because he has to fill in for Wilson, Proctor when they are injured. With their history it was never realistic to expect anything else.

That was our big failing. No cover.

We do / did have cover … just turns out we need cover for the cover and that again due to the crippling nature of the injury list.

Unfortunately we are a division 4 football team, with a budget. You have to gamble on players who are vulnerable to injuries and hope they have a better than normal season when it comes to lay offs.

The gamble has gone about as bad as it could be.

We also have the ‘steady’ full season no injury types - smith, pett etc.

Unfortunately they won’t be good enough to win us promotion without the ‘risk’ signings coming good and staying injury free.

The teams that are succeeding mainly have a few players who have the season of their career in a key position , like we did with Tom pope in our last promotion.

Cambridge last year with Mullins

And Forest green with both their ever present front 2 strikers.

Blame managers, warm ups, pitches, clay, the moon, the stars what ever you like ….sometimes it’s just sh@t luck being a vale fan.

Still going Saturday though and part of me still feels we might see a few players back and we need to find a different way to win football matches now.

In the summer window many posters were saying Vale needed to sign another experienced striker (As well as a young George Lloyd), especially as Proctor or Wilson haven't played 30+ games a season for 3 or 4 seasons. Not knocking those two players, it's just the life of a striker/footballer at times.
