Injuries

Would love to know when our injured players are likely to be back.

I know DC tries to keep this close to his chest on the theory he doesn’t want the opposition to know.
But as it seems most teams have now sussed us out anyway you wonder if it really matters.

Would be nice to know if there’s any light at the end of the tunnel for our injured players

Was a tad concerned to hear Clarke reference specialists/experts and not ruling out surgery for Conlon.

Fingers crossed it's more short-term or we're seriously on the ropes.

Whilst it's up to Clarke how much he shares (doesn't really bother me), the larger issue is how many of our players have had substantial injuries.

Last year Clarke condemned our injury record and said he'd never really had more than a few players injured at a time. He said things would change.

Sadly what's changed is our injury curse has more than cancelled out his lucky rabbit's foot.

The players have changed, and I understand so has our medical and fitness department. Is it the pitch to blame? Something to do with the training facilities? Just more bad luck?

That argument would suffice if it was muscle injuries but it’s not they’re all impact / serious injuries which DC just can’t legislate for. I think it’s just unlucky this season.

I think we've been unlucky too, that said I seem to remember a few years back 3 or 4 players having issues after leaving VP(around 03/04- 06/07).  Both Brooker and McPhee ended their careers relatively prematurely due to injuries(McPhee more so) but I'm sure I read once VP was known amongst pros for being on the heavy side as pitch and if you played it regularly over a few seasons perhaps it had some effect on more injury prone players? Obviously the training ground would come into that too as they are probably on that more than the actual pitch thinking about it.

Of course it's probably been relaid in the 15-18 years since but as I say sure I remember it being mentioned at some point(could be wrong?)

The irony with all this, is that one of the things DC was most critical of when he arrived at Vale Park was the poor standards of fitness and the high levels of absence through injuries for which, he pointed the finger at the previous management/coaching staff!  What went wrong this time around DC?

Wasnt he talking specifically about the amount of hamstring injuries,  of which we had a lot of last season? Way too many for it to be a coincidence.

Shame we let Burgess go before losing Politic and Conlon. He was actually fit.
