Appeal for Calm

Powerline

Recommended Posts

I cannot believe the levels of panic that has hit this forum in the last few days. We are still in a great position, one poor run of form and everyone’s lost their heads. Let’s all calm down please. We aren’t even half way through the season yet. This current state of panic will not help the players, and it’s completely unjustified.

I agree, but wouldn't say its COMPLETELY unjustified, if you look at the first 45 minutes on Saturday. Played off the park, in a completely disinterested outing. As fans, we can only react to what we are shown. Everyone is entitled to be happy with that "performance", but quite understandably, most are not. 🙂

What on Earth…..!!???

I’m sorry but this is a silly thread and I feel cross with myself for responding to it.

I can’t think of a single post that has indicated panic this weekend, only questions into an awful performance and result. Plus some daft comments about us  basically sacking the goalie.

For what it’s worth I feel automatic is now beyond us, which sounds daft with less than half the season gone but it will take a heck of a run which, at the moment, I’m not sure we’re capable of. This season has shown that whilst we can match anyone for spells in a game with our best 11 on, too often we don’t have this or we switch off and concede daft (and often very costly) goals.

Ask Rochdale or Walsall fans they’d say we are a poor team; ask Burton or FGR, they might say we are decent.

I’m bracing myself for another season in L2, but we’ll not be relegated as we have owners that care and invest rather than strip the cupboards bare, so in the long term we’ll be ok.

But again, definitely no panic even amongst us pessimists.

You’ll feel a bit silly if we win our next 3 and are back in the automatic places! I guess you are playing it down to avoid disappointment 😉

My take it that there is still a hell of a long way to go and anything could happen. As long as we stay in contention, the last two automatic spots (think FGR are as good as up)and PO’s will be defined on who holds their nerve in the last 10 games. We are likely to see a further 4 incoming players given the outgoings (and potential outgoings) so let’s see who they are and if they improve us. It’s going to be a rollercoaster, so buckle in and enjoy the ride 😄

I’m confess there are a few games I haven’t seen this season, but I haven’t seen a game where we have controlled a half like Swindon did against us on Saturday.

Irrespective, my point was that, save for another daft thread that’s also popped up tonight asking what’s going on, I don’t think anyone was particularly panicking, even me who doesn’t think we’ll get promoted.

The manager, director of football and all their staff are paid to handle such setbacks. I think they'll steer is through this awkward spell to a top seven finish. If not then all positions must be looked at the club. No need to panic at this stage.

Certain things are going to go wrong but you can only control the controllables. Politic being bought by a Serie B team, well that's just not something anyone here can control. IF Gibbons has a big club come in for him then there isn't a great deal that can be done about that. No point crying over spilt milk.

I’m not happy with it, but we’re a league 2 side. We are going to have bad halves and games for that matter.

You demonstrate it yourself by saying automatics are beyond us - on what grounds? There’s over half the season left yet, one bad half against Swindon doesn’t define our season.

Only a Vale fan could, with a straight face, say that the automatic promotion places are beyond us, when winning our 2 games in hand alone would get us in there. Unbelievable stuff atm

Runaway leaders FGR on their own turf. Barely gave them a kick in anger.

Just haven’t seen enough to think that we outperform the likes of Swindon, Mansfield or Tranmere who all seem to have clicked into gear. We’ve basically got to win two out of every three games between now and the end of the season to be sure of the automatics I reckon, and I might be wrong but I just don’t see it happening.

Realistically we have suffered from over a months inactivity plus a group of main players out injured for weeks, it will take weeks for these players to get back to where they were. As a consequence I do not think we will be in the mix at the end of the season. This aside I think progress has been made this season and do think that next season will be the one for us

Who knows what will happen, we could turn absolute rubbish between now and end of season. However, in current circumstances we are still in a good position so no need for panic stations yet

Don’t be silly. Assuming we got no draws in your scenario, that would put us on 83 points - that would’ve won the league last year.
